Bug? *chapter 3 spoilers*

This is about the second encounter with the first shadow reaver after you've acquired the True Names Scroll. Either I'm just too plain dumb to figure out how this work or it's a bug. No matter what I do, or how often I use the scroll on him he just keeps healing himself full before he gets low/dies.
Has anybody ever experienced this before? Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?

only Zhjiave or Ammon Jerro can use true name scroll.
