I didn't see any change to prices while highlighting different party members. Does this mean that the highest appraisal value of your party is automatically used upon buying and selling?

In SoZ, I think it works like crafting, as in any party member can have the appraisal skill count regardless of if they are the selected character (just like in crafting any of the characters can have the necessary skills regardless of which one actually does the crafting). It definately affects prices as my first party lacked appraisal amongst other skills, as I didn't realise how important they were in SoZ. So I re-rolled a party and my wizard has points in appraisal. I have noticed a big drop in prices as a result, although the wizard is also the party leader - but I have accidentally accessed store whilst having a low appraisal character such as my cleric selected and did not notice a rise in price.

(Sorry if this is a bit long-winded, its 2am here )

That makes perfect sense. Thanks!

The game uses the appraisal skill of the person who initiates dialogue with the shopkeeper.

This contradicts what was stated by Mr_Sir, above. Does anybody else have experience on the matter?

I'm not sure about appraisal but when I want to upgrade weapon, Safya is the only person who can do it since she has high weapon craft. But Mr_Sir is probably still correct since the gold appears the same in any member of the team.

I don't know for definate how appraisal works in SoZ, so my post isn't a reliable answer, its purely my observations from playing the game with various parties I too would be interested if anyone knows exactly how it calculates the appraisal for shops and if it is only the party leader - maybe once the leader accesses the store, it remembers that appraisal until your leader's appraisal changes, which is why the prices don't change for other characters?

When the PC first encounters a merchant, it sets the Appraisal value. ANd it remains as such until/unless the PC's Appraisal value changes.

I just tested it, and the prices changed depending on who I had selected when I asked to see the merchant's wares. Changing the selected character after bringing up the shopping interface doesn't change anything.

(But really, money should not be any sort of problem in the campaign. I ended up with 10 million gp or something the last time I played.)

Exactly, BUT they don't change much do they (for the skill point expenditure)? Further, what happens to your sales?

Other than the rare additional dialog choice which adds "flavor" to the game (..and notably for this skill is never required), Appraisal is a worthless skill.

Starting from mid ACT 2, we'll have more gold than we need.
