I skipped a couple of NWN2 patches, only to find that Tieflings suddenly have tails. Interesting. How does that work out for the other class 'appendages', such as dragon wings, bone hands and or anything else I might be forgetting about? Have those suddenly been added too? Why would they not release those in retail? Don't tell me they needed to beta test the tails..

I don't know about the others, but people probably whined that they weren't put into the game. It was probably a low-priority thing that got dropped. Technically, Tieflings don't all have the horns/tails thing that was put into the NWN series. They have random signs of their fiendish heritage by the rules. That may be anything, like red eyes, or claws, or horns, or whatever. The developers probably dropped the tail and only used the horns because they wanted a trait for Neeshka. She ended up with horns, so they used the horns as the base feature everyone got.

Hm, I don't buy that. She talks about her tail in the dialogue, so it was thought of before. Just not implemented.

Did she? Hmm, I don't recall that. Then it was probably just dropped as low priority due to time constraints. Then fixed, as the wonderful world of gaming since the rise of the internet has shown that all games put out on PC must be subjected to 8 months of patching before being done. Dun-dun-dun.

So, is this a way for companies making games to cut down their expenses by letting the consumers test their products for free (instead of their employees), and increase their income by selling afterwards patches for the games??
How do time constraints apply? I'd rather buy a game that works fine after a whole year than an incomplete game right now.

(I may be talking nonsense, I don't know much about the gaming community.
But that's why I'm asking...)

*back to silent thoughts*

The game developers don't usually sell the patches, they are free to download, but they do sometimes charge for extra content, such as official mods etc.

I personally feel that the main reason that games are released before they are finished due to pressure from the executives who know nothing about game/software development and just want it on the market as soon as possible so they can get it in time for peak sales periods such as just before Christmas. But thats just my opinion, rather than fact

But discussion about how the gaming industry works is probably best in the SYM section or another section rather than here, as this section of the forums is for Neverwinter Nights 2, and the original post in this thread was related to content in the patches in NWN2.
