Wild Magic Surge

When I use some magic items, specifically, my Gem of Seeing and my Brooch of Shielding

, I sometimes get this text coming up saying * wild magic surge * and some random weird stuff happens. It once happened and I had to make a reflex save against electricity, and of course, my Gem or Brooch didn't give me their special power. A different time that happened and the door closest to me opened. A little creepy.
The last time this happened I remembered being on the 2nd floor of the Wizard's Tower in Shaori's Fell for HoTU. Maybe in certain areas this happens?
If anyone knows why this happens, or if they think it's just a glitch, please let me know!

This is supposed to happen in the Wizard Tower in Shaori's Fell....It is a place that kills my mage all the time.

You've got to get through the tower without magic. Buff up before you go inside and tell your henchmen not to use magic (Nathyra accidentally turned me into a chicken).

I can't resist them using magic, I think it's so funny to see the cows and deer wandering around. I know it's not so funny when you become a chicken to fight a Balor, but.....

Highlight of the tower, my druid character ended up with a penguin as a sidekick. I was so upset at losing it!

I do use magic in the tower.....I just have one spell per level

So if one spell fails I either try to recast it or I cast one from another level.

Try to stick to using potions in the tower if possible. That should work fine.

Okay, thanks guys.

On the third floor I tried to use my Brooch and a cow appeared! And those slaadi keep killing me.
