Why did I lose items between stages

After I went through the ritual ceremony where Desther took the cure and escaped, when I went through the portal to Helm's Hold I found that I had lost a majority of items from my inventory. It was all artifact type stuff, keys, special necklaces and stuff that I had gotten from previous quests. Nothing like weapons or potions were missing. Is that normall or was there a glitch?

That is normal.

The stuff you have lost are plot items specific to chapter/module 1, that have no usage in chapter 2.
The game removes thoese, so it (you) dosen't have to keep track of them in the following chapters.
