Suggestions Please!

I HAVE NEVER PLAYED DD3RD ADDITION SO THE CLASS/MULTICLASSING IS THROWING ME OFF A LITTLE. IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO START OFF AS A FIGHTER AND GAIN A FEW LEVELS BEFORE SWITCHING TO SORCEROR? IT WOULD REALLY HELP IF I COULD HAVE A 2ND FIGHTER IN MY PARTY BUT I WOULD NOT WANT TO HURT MY LEVEL UP ABILITY IN THE LONG RUN.
THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Please switch of your caps lock when writing posts here please. It is extreemly annoying.

And I know you can do so, because your topic is in real letters and not this caps stuff.

If you wish to multiclass your sorcerer then you can go right ahead - just be carefull with the XP-penalties that come with multiclassing.
Check out the races favored class and multiclassing rules in the manual.

Some people like to take a few levels as fighter before going for their "real class" - I however don't really see it as a problem, because you can use summoned creatures to fight for you as well.

You would rarely have your sorcerer in the frontline as a fighter either becuase that severly limits your casting abilities.

So if you want the feats and hit points, then you should - if you want your sorcerer to fight - I'd suggest either taking more fighter levels then just a few.

And again - avoid writing posts in caps, please.

there are many pros and cons to multiclassing depending on the race and class you choose, the levels of a specific class you have before taking new levels of another class, the overall "compatibility" of the classes you have in mind etc. etc. i suggest you read the manual the comes with the game thouroughly (sp?), taking time to scrutinize the level-up tables of each classes (esp the classes you have in mind..). once you know the abilities you gain for taking that level, and a few levels before and after for the classes u r plainning for, u will be in a better position to judge if it will "cripple" ur character, or if it is "better" to do it or not. judging from someone who can type two posts in full caps, i presume u have not done so?

if u really want a spellcaster to wade into melee.. think about using spells to boost your less than warrior melee prowess. And if the feats are not the matter, u might also want to consider paladin levels instead of a fighter, for the devine grace ability, which adds your Cha bonus to all saves..
