Post Strengthlevel

I was wondering how mutch the Strength level of a caracter matters for a fighter.
I know this is a very important part for a fighter but I choose a resonably low Strength level.

Strength: 14
Dexterity: 15
Constitution:16
Intelligence:12
Wisdom:10
Charisma:8

This are more stats for a thief perhaps... but I think I like it (not sure yet).

Sorry to say I not very good with numbers etc. (I think the points total is ok.)

So I was hoping someone can tell me a little bit about how mucht this would matter compared to a higher Strength level at getting and dealing out damage. (how mutch does it matter?)

If this requiers a to long answer, I understand.

Thanx,
Rob-hin

Your strength level is fine. I as a Paladin have 14 as well and thats fine it gives you an ok bonus. My stats are:

Str 14
Con 14
Dex 14
Int 10
Cha 12
Wis 12

Your stats as a fighter are fine

Strength is normally used for bonuses on larger weapons (greatswords for example) it is also a measure on how much you can carry.

You've spent 30 points instead of 28. If you lower your constitution to 15, you'll be OK (the jump from 15 to 16 costs 2 points).

These are not bad statistics for a fighter, but I would switch strength and dexterity unless you plan to specialize in a missile weapon. Dexterity is not so incredibly important for front line fighters because they don't get the full bonus if they wear heavy armor. If you make your strength 15 now, you will be able to raise it to 16 at 4th level, giving you a +2 bonus on attack rolls instead of the +1 at 14 and 15.

If you want to play a light fighter (an archer or a hit-and-run type), the scores you have will be just fine. Be sure and change your constitution, though (or drop something else by 2 points), so you don't spend too many points.

To clarify how much difference each point makes in your statistics, see below:

Score/Bonus:
8/-1
9/-1
10/0
11/0
12/+1
13/+1
14/+2
15/+2
16/+3
17/+3
18/+4

And so on.... Unlike the old system, every stat gets the same bonuses, and there is no 18/01-18/00. Strength goes from 18 straight to 19.

Does that help any?

If you want us to help you with your character you really need to give us some more information about it There's a lot of feats one can choose to emphasize strengths or help up weaknesses. These should also be put into the equation. Like 'Weapon finesse', 'Toughness' and so on.

(Saigo. Maybe you should edit your post. THe text is a little wrong. The table looks alright though)

Should be +3 and +2 respectivly unless I'm very much mistaken.

If you'll give me a hint about what's wrong, I'll be happy to change it.

Well, I don't need that mutch help yet.
But since were on the subject....

About dexterity, does this not help with avoid hits and hitting the opponent more often?

Because I'm planning on a fighter who doesn't do mucht damage but does a lot of "small" hits

Well dexterity in regards of AC is not as important when(if) you plan to use heavy armour. (IIRC)

And you only use dexterity to determine if you hit while using missile weapons - not meele, here you would use strenght. (like BG/BG2)

So, a higher strenght means more hits? That means I have to change my whole concept!

Ah well... NWN is still far away so I'v got time!

Thanx!

Can't you use the Weapon Finesse skill to add a dex adjustment to your hit rolls with a melee weapon rather than a str adjustment?

And the weapon has to be one size smaller than the character.

High strength does not mean more hits btw, just that you more likely to hit.

But I suppose you could take weapon finesse Rapier and dual wield them. Max out dex and wear a chain shirt. Perhaps even start with one level Ranger to get Ambidexterity and Two-weapon fighting for "free".

Edit: Second weapon should be light to minimize penalties.
