| Don't talk to the pool or the swirly-thingy on the floor. The pool is for recovering quest-vital objects that, for whatever reason, you have dropped. Talk, instead, to the golden effulgent (shiny) portal you popped into the temple from. Press the "Tab" key on your keyboard and you will see "Portal" above the thing you're supposed to talk too. It will initiate dialog telling you the cost of being teleported back to where you were prior to using the Stone of Recall.
