SOU - Is It Just Me?

I really enjoyed NWNs but this second series SOU is terrible. It's as though they got real lazy. As a player, I found BG2 fab and TOB did not disappoint because it was harder. This second part of the Neverwinter series has less to explore and the stores are junk. During NWN, I spent most of my time trying to get enough money to pay for the stuff I needed to survive, it was just a great challenge.

Of course I'm only on Chapter one but I've looked thru the walk thru and most of the maps show very little activity.

So, question: is it worth buying part 3 in the series.

To be honest, i found the original campaign rather boring.
SoU and HotU have both more rollplaying, and IMO a better storyline. There are less, but more various magic items, and better NPC's.

I enjoyed SoU more then NWN, and i'm still enjoying HotU

Actually - in my personal experience - SoU is much harder then the original NwN, both in regards of combat and "plot".
In the original NwN you would level much faster then you do in SoU - I found I died much more often in SoU then in NwN.

However - SoU is more closed in areas, so the feel can be more claustofobic, and there are fewer areas. So in that respect - one might be dissapointed. But then again - it is also just an "expansinon" (well - it is more an addition, because it dosen't follow the story line of NwN. The storyline of NwN is somwhat joined with SoU in HotU).

But SoU was also made to introduce new feats, classes, skills, spells and henchmen AI (amongst somethings) and is also directed somewhat at the multiplayer aspect.
SoU also offers more possibilities for roleplay, as Stilgar mentions, and there are a few twists and turns that the player can do depending on his skills and class.

However, HotU is a better single player experience though, then both SoU and the original NwN. But the HotU module was also made speficially for single player.

If I should rate them, it would be NwN < SoU < HotU.

You're not alone...

Malia Nash,
It's not just you. I thought SOU was extremely lame. I'm with you on the facts that BG2 and TOB were AWESOME expansions and that SOU doesn't compare. I, too, am on the fence about getting the HoTU. I probably will, just because I'm one who has to "get everything" when I get involved in a game, though. I'm just hoping to find it for under $30. Shoot...I only paid $20 for NWN!!! I can't believe I have to pay more for less game.

To keep my interest, because I really DO like the NWN gameplay despite it's ease and less than exciting storylines...I've expanded my playing to online servers and also by going in and messin' with creating new modules and creating all kinds of cool stuff. There are a lot of options, outside of normal single player gameplay with NWN. Thank God...

I'm hoping that this new Dragon Age game is as cool as it sounds. It's the next generation of this type of game and I'm really looking forward to it. I REALLY hope it's as hard and long as Baldur's Gate. From the reviews, it seems like it will be very "involved" with a lot of different character(s) developement and storylines... And the part I will like best, is that you'll be able to control your whole team, like in BG. That is something that NWN is sorely missing...
