Skills points - Does it matter when I use them?

I am playing NWN for the first time, and intend to play a Barbarian/Cleric/Champion of Torm focusing on Conc/Disc/Taunt/Tumble. As the title states, does it matter when I spend my skill points? I am trying to see if there is some strategy for dumping points into class skills vs cross-class skills.

I'm not sure but it should not let you complete the level up if you dont spent some skill points. And there should be a limit for points in one skill for char level. It's like this in NWN2 and i just assume that it is the same in the first game.

why shouldn't you not use skillpoints?
if you see $50 on the street you also pick them up without guestion right?

skill points are given freely so use them at will

If you hold back skill points, you can multiclass into a different class, effectively using a loophole to use said held skill points without putting ranks into cross class skills. Example: A fighter wants to become a duelist, so he holds his skill points for one level (lets say he's human with a 12 intelligence, so thats 4 skill points), so this means at level 4 he could go up one level into rogue (at level 5) and instead of gaining 8+int+human, he gains 12+int+human for that one level, allowing him to buy enough skills to get into duelist and such.

but that is when opting for dueling.

is dueling really worth that?

skillpoints well spended should either go dual or single class right? ;-)

now your on it anyway

if your a fighter and choose at level 5 to dual to a fighter/rogue.

does the skill point class change then?

like rogue class skills is hide(which at rogue cost 1 point to upgrade)
will this have the same effect with the fighter if dueled to rogue?
and still maintain the fighter skills classes?

Umm, when I say Duelist, I don't mean a person who dual classes. I mean the prestige class called "The Duelist" which requires Perform and Tumble ranks. Since rogues don't get perform but they are by far the best choice for duelists, it's nice to have an extra few skill points so you don't have to take an unnecessary level of rogue just to fill in one last gap.

When multiclassing, your class skills change, they don't stack in with each other.
