Paladin or Fighter...?

instead of dumb questions, i thought i'd post something more general...

Ive finished the game a few times, and im going again... i have finished with a monk, and also with an arcane archer.
i am off yet again to make a fighter type class.
i have decided to take RDD as my main class, which also means a level of bard or sorc (bard IMO).
but im left with what class to use with it... ill be using greatswords.. and i have been thinking of a fighter for the extra feats, but what about a paladin for the immune to fear and disease?
im hopeless with fighter type classes, any advice??

I always prefer fighter to paladin as a melee combattant: I mean, besides the extra feats, you can gain weapon specialization which is not bad.

In my experience, I've often associated Bard+RDD to fighter, champion of torm and weapon master and maybe you should consider also these options.

My last character is going to be a fighter+WM+ChT with a greatsword specialization: I'm currently only F8, WM6, but he sounds promising.

hmm i see your point.. i think fighter might be best. theres an amulet or a belt that makes you immune to disease and fear, ill just buy one of those lol
i was thinking of saving bard untill level 6 or 7.. just save my stat points untill
then, then putting all of my points into 'Use magic device' i've heard that its useful in the later levels.... any opinions?

I'm a bit late here, but I think Paladin would be best because of the bonuses associated with Charisma, which is a common stat with the Bard. Of course, Palemaster would still be the number one choice for me .

I think he could be pale master, being a sorcerer+rdd, but not being a bard+rdd; or I am wrong?

Immunity to disease? Scrolls of remove disease are quite cheap. Fear? There are lots of items against it (all the helmets with immunity to mind-spells; and of course the amulet Daelan Red-Tiger gives you).

Nope, you're wrong .

Bard 14/RDD 10/Palemaster 16 is one of the most popular pvp (and pvm) builds now. It has the highest STR possible if you pump strength (giving a rediculously high Dev Crit DC), has access to the overpowered and unresistable Curse Song, is immune to criticals and at PM 16 has epic spells, in particular Epic Warding. It can beat most fighters with it melee skills, then it has it's Barb buffs and Epic spells. The only real weakness is that it only has three attacks (plus shield).

Ok, it's my fault never testing this combination.

However, returning to the main topic, I think we forgot a very important thing: to be Bard you cannot be Lawful, to be Paladin you must be it, so, though you can change your algnm. during your game, you could encounter problems to mix the two classes.

Normally I would just use a leveling module for alignment changes, but yes, it can be annoyingly inconvienient to switch from Chaotic to Lawful.

...and correct me if I'm wrong... it's quite impossibile to switch... while it's easy the opposite... (just doing a carnage of innocents...)

sorry all... we had a major storm come through and it knocked the power out for the last 3 days, anywho..

and lawful paladin with the bard.. it would screw things up a bit wouldnt it..
the fighter is looking to be the best option... i like the bard/rdd/pm idea.. it sounds insanely cool.

changing from Chaotic to Lawful would be hard.. i dont even know what actions change that way? Lawful to Chaotic is easy in SOU (maybe hotu too?) just steal stuff out of the elven crypt and in town.

Yes, that's right... making a carnage of innocent people shifts you to evil, not to chaotic...

Rapier + Shield is the same as any other, just less attacks per round. With WM 7 you will deal out critical threats 55% of the time, without, you critical 45% of the time.
