Sometimes I get it to start, but usually it doesn't.

I get the setup menu and press "play", then I get the loader (with the NWN logo), and then the loader goes away and.... nothing happens. I use task manager and NWN is not open. I can click it over and over and it just goes to the loader and vanishes. I'm using Vista, unfortunately, and can't seem to be able to figure out the problem.

I've had the exact thing happen to me and I discovered that it was other programs interfering with the startup. If I had anything running, NWN would likely crash in the exact same way you describe. My laptop is new, and it had a few pop-up programs for sale that would launch when I started teh computer, and those always shut it down.

Try creating a shortcut on your desktop to the nwmain.exe. Right-click the shortcut, and insert the following piece of text in the "Destination"-line. Now, this is how the shortcut looks on my system, so the destination may be different on your computer, but something like that:

C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +TestNewModule "123456"

When the +TestNewModule "123456" is part of the command, it will try to load the module named 123456 immediately after you click the shortcut. But since a module by that name doesn´t exist (unless you created one by that name, of course), it will just take you to the menu where you pick modules. From there you can go back and play the original NWN campaigns.

Now, this trick works on my computer, but since I have XP, I´m not sure if it will work on your Vista computer.

I looked into the atari folder in program files, the folder right in the C:, and the disk itself, but I can't find nwnmain.exe file, or any .exe file for that matter...

Also only have one disk for it, it was from the release copy from a while ago, did that come with two disks? because it didn't ask for another disk in the installation. A while ago I was playing just fine but now its crappy

Last I checked, NWN doesn't work with Vista.

You might want to go to Bioware's NWN site, and check in their tech forum. I'm sure we've had some questions about making the game more compatible with Vista.

Mine was freezing when I hit load because Vista felt it had to notify me that it changed color schemes so you might want to try hittting the windows key and see if yours is doing something similar,it does work with Vista at least with the latest updates.
