| | | NwN Bug: Can't speak with Lenton(Spoilers) Decided to clean up the original thread, because from traffic it seems as if this is a "popular" problem: Quote: |
While in the East Road. I am supposed to speak with Lenton and recive a quest of bringing back the head of a Troll Chieftain. When I try to speak with him it says "Object is busy and cannot talk to you right now". He keeps beating up the training dummy. Is this a bug or have I missed something?
| This is a bug, I'm playing version 1.62 and am still encountering it.
There is however a "work-around" to the bug:
Using the console, one should type the following commands:
DebugMode 1
dm_setfactiondefender (The mouse cursor will enter target mode, press Lenton)
DebugMode 0
This will cause him to stop attacking the dummy after a short while, and then you can chat with him.
There are 2 ways of using the console.
The easiest way is to type in the chat box.
However to do this one need to type the commands in using a preface each command with ##.
The second way to access the console is via the console commandprompt. This is accessed in different manners depending on keyboard setup. In the manual it states to press the ~ key, however due to international keyboards some users have to use the `key. This will open up a command prompt in the upper left corner of the screen where commands can be entered.

| | | I have the same problem of speaking to Lenton in chapter 2 but I have found that if you are playing a mage type character and have access to a charm spell you can get him to stop so you can speak to him without having to debug it. I also have noticed that the Troll head does not go after you talk to him and get your reward. Just what I have found while playing.

| | | Hi Xandex,
I've tried your method to debug, but I got only as far as Step 1. After debug 'success', I keyed in dm_setfractiondefender, the message returned with 'Function setfractiondefender not found'. Where have I gone wrong?
Thanks! |

Thanks! | I don't know if it is a typo while typing here on GB, but the command is:
dm_setfactiondefender
and not dm_setfractiondefender as you typed (faction - not fraction).
Otherwise - I don't know which method you use, but typing the commands with a ## prefix on each, in the chat-box, is the easiest method.
This is because, I've noticed that there sometime is problems with the console command prompt (using ~ or ` and typing in the command prompt in the upper left corner of the screen), causing me to have to do a work around for using that also - which I can explain if somebody whish' it. Therefore it is easier to simply type in in the chat-box. Quote: |

But I've never had problems with the troll heads not disapering after talking to Lenton. I wonder if that is a result of the work around, or a different bug.

| | Hi Xandax,
Yes, yes, it's MY own typo mistake! Sorry for the confusion. It did worked. After several tries, I realised that I have to speak to Lenton immediately after 'targetting' him, and then debug when everything's finished with him.
Thanks! |

| | Ah yes. I've ended up just killing Lenton, because I got so damn pissed that he wouldn't talk to me. I thought, "goddamn you! I went through ALL THAT to get you this disgusting head and all you do is whack that STUPID dummy!"
*ahem!*
But anyway, another way I found around this is to go down the troll caves BEFORE you talk to the archeologist in front (that's how I did it anyway, although maybe you can talk to him but not enter the barracks and it'll also work) and then kill the troll king and take his head. THEN you enter the barracks. The first time you enter, he's not whacking on that supid combat dummy, and you can talk to him for the quest. IMMEDIATELY after (pause if you've got slow fingers), talk to him again and hand over the head for your well-earned reward. Then, if you're feeling vindictive about having to finish the quest in this roundabout way, taunt him and kill him . Anyway, that worked for me, and it may work for you too, but I do know that every time I try to finish this the normal way, I can't (normal way meaning talked to him first, then exited barracks, then killed troll king, then re-entered barracks), because, as was said above, he can't be talked to. |

| | I posted this solution last month in the BIO forums...I hope it helps since is very easy and it doesn't require any special actions which might mess up your game.
"Hi all,
I know is probably too late for most people who play NWN the solution I provide, but here it comes...
In order to get Lenton's attention and get the reward after bringing the Troll Chieftain head to him (or receive the quest alltogether) all you have to do is:
1. save the game while standing next to him
2. reload the game and press the "pause" button just before the game is completely reloaded (therefore the game will be paused when the in-game screen will appear - it is possible to do it since I did it many times)
3. "talk" to him while the game is still paused !!!!! it should work now fine...
No need to debugging nor charming/dominating him. He will take the head from your inventory unlike in the case of a charming/dominating solution...
Cheesy? Maybe...but it does the trick...
The game will continue without any problem and if other NPC's in the game will have the same problem...you know now how to solve it.."
good luck! |

| | | This is another way to talk to him ( only for wizard/sorc): Summon your familiar. then take control over it and have it attack Lenton. Then unsummon your familiar, Lenton will now only stand there and look at you but only for a short time... |

| | | My way to deal with Lenton is to use a "dominate person" spell (or an object, like the crossbow of enchantement). You'll be able to speak to him, but, just to be sure, bring with you the troll's head (it means that you have to go down the troll caves BEFORE you speak to him). It works 100%.

| | | I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to speak to him, but when the game pauses on you like that (I, for one, keep getting stuck in a wall and is unable to move) using the recall stone might just help.
I do remember though, that Lenton wouldn't tell me I've completed the quest even when I had. It took me a few minutes to realize I had to speak to the mom first, didn't make a lot of sense to me, that, since she was right next to him and he should be able to see her. |
