Question noob ? how to cast a spell

Well, go ahead and laugh now. I can not figure out how to cast a spell. I just don't know. What I read in the little book that came with the game does not explain it well and the guy in the game that told me how, well I guess I just did not pay attention and he will not go back over it.
Could someone here please tell me how to go about casting a spell. I mean right down to the simple as in push this button and then do this, type explination.

Hey and thanks for your help in advance.

Now THAT is a question you dont hear everyday...
But: sure, listen up...

- open your spellbook with... "s"? or by pressing the spellbook button on the rightside menu (the circle with the small dots around it)
- click through the pages until you've found the desired spell
- drag&drop the icon of the desired spell to a slot of the quickbar at the bottom of the screen. It will now "sit" there until you replace it or empty that quickslot.
- whenever you want to cast that spell, click on the quickslot with the corresponding icon
- your cursor will change into a magic-targeting-arrow
- click on your desired victim
- enjoy the show.

Also, remember that you have THREE quickbars.
- the normal one
- one that is visible while you hold CTRL and
- one that is visible when you hold SHIFT.
A lot of room for your spells.

My hint: I usually place all my standard offense spells on the normal quickbar, all my defense/buffing spells on the CTRL-quickbar and all manipulating/other spell on the SHIFT-quickbar. Makes things easier to access.

Hey, thanks.
Is there a pinned thread around these parts that give beginner hints? Also, How do you get an avatar here?
I think I will be around here for a while.
Neat graphics on this game.

edit, I found the avatar thingy.
Would still like beginners hints and tips.

For NWN you mean?
Hmmm... not much around in that category.

Then again, there's not much about the NWN interface that'd really require coaching. The spell thingie is probably one, but everything else is pretty much foolproof point-n-clicking.

The only really complex thing is the rule system behind the character development - i.e. what skills/feats to choose when leveling up, wether or not to dual-class and so on. So... well, if you tell us your character class, we can give you hints about that.

But, since you asked about spells, you apparently play a spellcaster (sorcerer? wizard?) - who is a bit more complex to play, but less complex to level up, since your skills basically dont matter and you very rarely get feats...

Yet, note spellcasters typically suck at low levels, so dont get frustrated at the beginning. Once you hit level10, things will really start to change for the better. Be sure to have a melee-combat henchman with you so he can take the brunt of the attack while you rain destruction upon the enemies from behind. Rest often to have all your spells ready, save often to be on the safe side.
Don't let yourself be confused by the many, many spells. Simply read the descriptions and focus your efforts on boosting/protection spells in the beginning and on offense spells later on.
