Newly turned Ranger, hows to do companions

I just turned my Barbarian into a Ranger for my first level in Chapter 2. Just because I dont have a clue how to do it, how do I go about getting an animal companion. I figure they are specific and I cant just "empathy" any old animal. I also figure I can't just buy them.

I only have one level in Ranger so far, so I guess it could be that I need to be a certain level first or maybe do a specific quest.

You need to get to level 6 as a Renger. Then simply right click on your PC, choose special abilities and the lower icon will be the Summon Animal Companion.
