Neverwinter Platinum

I'm almost to the end of the third chapter of NWN and loving it. I bought the NWN Platinum cause I saw it had both expansion packs and was actually cheeper than buying them seperately. Can I install NWN Platinum without disrupting what's happening my character in NWN now? Will I loose anything or will the current game stay the same?

I'm sure it will have seperate disks for the expansions, so just install those. It shouldn't affect your game in the slightest.

Otherwise, just back up the savegames folder. I'm sure the folder is fairly easy to find, just flick through your NWN directory.

Installation

For the record NWN Platinum installs without disrupting the saves for NWN Original.

Question DVD vs CD

Hey, does anyone know, is there a difference between the DVD or CD version of NWN Platinum? I'm thinking of buying, but I want to know if there's an appreciable difference between the two.

Another general question. I played Baldur's Gate II and know that you can import the character(s). [Edit: Actually, it seems that according to Bioware, you can't. I was misled by the information contained in the BGII game, which is apparently dated info.] However, is there any story connection between the two game worlds?

And finally, are the major bugs I've seen mentioned on these forums patched yet?

Thanks in advance to any who reply.

Actually, you can't import your BG2 PC into NWN. BG2 is based on 2nd Ed ADnD, and NWN is based on 3rd Ed DnD - completely different systems. Besides the fact that the original NWN module starts you off from 1st level, and your BG2 PC, at the end of ToB, is around 40th or so!

Depends on the bug. Which ones in particular do you mean?

Oh, and could you please start a new thread if you have off-topic questions? Just so we can try to keep everything in it's own thread. Thanks mate.

Cheers,
TGHO

answer to The Great Hairy

TGH, looks like you caught the post before I edited it.

Anyway, I'm sorry for posting on this thread, but I thought it might clutter to start a new one, and the information IS mostly about NWN Platinum installation as in the original post. Despite that, if you still think it would be best to have started a new thread, please repeat and I will do so in the future. (I'm currently an infrequent forum user/poster, so I'll defer to those more in-the-know.)

As for the bugs, I'm not sure about specifics. I mainly wanted to know if people thought that there were any ones remaining that significantly impacted playabilty, enjoyment, etc.

No worries, it's cool.

Yeah, I wouls suggest starting a new thread if you have off-topic questions. There is plenty of room here for more threads!

As to show-stopping bugs, I can't immediately think of any. I know of a few minor ones (parry for example), but nothing which breaks the game or the enjoyment of the game.

Cheers,
TGHO

I just bought the Platinum edition, and it comes with 4 CDs which you needto install all at once, and the three games come as one.

On a different note, in the 200 page manual which comes with the game, under the henchmen section it says that "the player can have up to 2 henchmen at once" I think it also says that dominated/summoned creatures don't count as henchmen. I am in Chap 2 in the orig NWN, and I know that i can only have 1 Henchman (Daelen) and a dominated creature. Does the Second henchmen come in the expansions?

To build on Noober's reply - It comes with HotU and does not apply to the earlier modules, either the Original, or SoU.

Cheers,
TGHO

Answer#1
The DVD version comes on one disk. The CD version comes on 4 disks. The only reason to by the CD version is if you don't have a DVD-ROM.

Answer#2
In theory your saved games SHOULD be fine. That is what tech support told me when I COULDN'T load my saved games without crashing. I ended up scrapping all my old saved games. So, be wary.
