n00btastic Identifying items

This could be a dumb question but how do you do it?

Do you have to find some one to do it for you?
Or do you have to lvl up the lore skill?

I play a lot of rpgs (yes I’m a very sad lil man that sits at home playing rpgs) well not really but I don’t have a job at the moment so they fill in the time till friends get back from work

there are several ways of identifiying things in NWN, if you play a wizard og sorcerer the easiest way is to simply use an identify spell on it. This is done by right clicking on the item, and then simply click on identify. And yes, if you have a high lore rank you can identify many items by simply looking at it, there are numerous items which will let you temporarly or permantly (as long as you wear the item) boost your lore skill, look for potions of lore, those are specially useful. The third way to do it, is to let a merchant do it for you. Barter with a merchant, in the barter window right click on the unidentified item, and then click identify, this will cost you 100gp.

In NwN you can put points in the skill Lore at level ups, which is the skill used for identifying.
There are items that grant you a bonus to lore which helps you identify.

Futhermore - there is a poition of Lore, which when you drink it, will give you a short boost of Lore so you can identify items. (Pause, after drinking, and you can identify more items ).
There is also a spell for the same purpose called Identify.

You can also pay merchants to identify items for you, when shopping at their store.

Lastly - I know in the expansions (SoU and HotU) you can get some of your henchmen to try and identify items for you. (Specifically a bard henchmen). I don't know if this works in the original NwN, because I've never played that campaign through using the bard henchman. But this is done, by starting a convesation with your henchman.
