Is that the Lich who wants you to release him? Used to be head of the Brotherhood?

As far as I remember you should help him (that's what I did, twice).

If you really want to kill him you should use spell protection magic, but it depends on what class you are.

Youre talking about the one in the cell, I remember him. I dont recall having a problem with him. Maybe I just got lucky or something, but I just started attacking him, ignore the stupid bear of course. Kept doing dinky damage at first, but after a while I made it through all the magical defenses and smooshed him.

You gotta kill those things fast or else they can pull out some pretty nasty spells. It helps if you have knockdown or a henchman on can since it really slows them down. If certain spell effects like stun are making it difficult, try getting a potion or eq that will resist the attack. eg. get mind spells immunity to avoid getting stunned. Liches in NW are actually pretty weak if you've ever played BGII. A lich from that game could kill a dozen of these guys without breaking a sweat.

I disagree, I would say that because in BG the majority of players will have full parties, Bioware scaled the encounters upwards to compensate for that. In NwN there is a maximum of two 'players' (not including spawns). Therefore they modify the level of encounter to cope with that. Besides if you examine the Lich you'll damn well know how many immunities and stuff they have. If you're not careful and you don't manage your game effectively, they toast you just as well as any.

You might be right. It's been a while since I've played BGII and I might just be remembering those hour long fights with Kangaxx and elemental liches and such (before I found those neat protection from magic scrolls of course). It's just that none of the liches in NW really stood out as very powerful, and some of them were just downright pathetic. Then again, I remember a couple of liches from BGII where the fight was over before it even started by simply using Turn Undead.

Just ignore the bear, and make sure your henchman is attacking the lich. His nasty spells will be interupted and you can kill it from a safe distance (off course depending on what class you are playing)
