HOTU: chapter 3: How to kill a big bad beast?

In the puzzle room I'm supposed to kill the gate guardian, but my druid/champion of torm just can't do the trick. My two companions Aribeth and Deekin don't seem to do any damage either. Is there some kind of strategy to kill that guardian?

I'm having the same problem. I'm not taking damage because it can't hit me, but I can't really do significant damage to it because it keeps regenerating. I'm just going to start over from chapter 3 again but with a stronger character.

Whan I get to such parts I put a lot of protective spalls on me and my companion, fire away my favourite spells and turn into a Red Dragon. That almost always works. Why don't you try some other spells. Sometimes it is just a question of the right combination.

You need a relative high enchantment bonus on your weapon to bypass the reductions on the guardian - what weapon are your characters using and if you have any in your backpack with a higher enchantment bonus, they might be worth a try.

And I can't recall which spells hit this one, but try the usual acid type spells - also if you have some highlevel summons such as Black Blade of Disaster they might be worth a try.

With magic only that spell with the big circle of fire does any damage, but it's only a scratch and the guardian regenarates while I rest to do it again.

My swords are pretty pumped up but ineffective and I don't have much money left.

Enserric the longsword has the following stats:1d8, 19-20x2, Ech: +5, Onhit: Drain DC -24 Strenght, regenaration +2, spell resist 20, true seeing, Vampiric regen. +5

Devils sting (offhand weapon): 1d6, 18-20x2, 1d6 acid, ech: +6, poison DC-26 1d2 constitution and strenght

I figured these weapons would kick ass, but they obviously dont. Not in my hands at least.

I don't know what char you are playing, but with my level 26 wizard it was easy. I shot 3-4 Isaac's Greater Missile Storms at him and he snuffed it. But I was running around with Aribeth, my pet Pseudodragon, my Elder Elemental and my Shield Guardian so I don't know...There were pretty tricky parts, like the fight in the Hall of the Long Death where I had to change my whole spell repertoar, and use spells I never tried before like Horrid wiltig...Try every spell you can and see which does most damage. Try using spell scolls and magic objects. I always found my Rod of Thunder useful. And I could damage him very well with my Enserric, and he as almost the same stats.

I am having problems with this gate guardian also...

I am playing a level 26 Paladin...and the spells available to me are fine for buffing up but I have nothing that will damage the guardian.

I am traveling with Valen and Nythrra...

I have several weapons available to choose from:

Handaxe +6 (does no damage)
Sabals Flail +5 (does no damage)
Honor & Death - +3 attack +2 enhancement blah blah blah
And many others...including an Astral Blade +8...

None of them do any damage.

I cast all the spells I have plus potion up and yet the best I have done thus far is to get the guardian to 'injured' before he regenerates. My dispel magic does nothing against him...

I cannot figure out how to get OUT of this area...went back to where I killed the Monk and Maugrin, and can't use the gate to get out. Thought I might go back and see about getting a better weapon, but apparently that's out.

I am open to suggestions from people who played this as a fighter rather than a sorcerer/mage etc etc.

I really do NOT wish to go back and begin this all over again...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Long time ago - but if I remember right it should be enchantment bonus +5 or +6 and above.
He has a very high damage resistance, so try to couple your highest enchantment weapon with power attack (if you have that) to make sure that it isn't just because your weapon doesn't cut through his damage resistance.
Might take critical attacks to finish him off for the damage to be high enough to cut through.

Maybe elemental damage is the solution? My party was:

*Druid 5/Shadowdancer 5/Shifter 11 > Shifted to Undead Lord with 2D6 Acid Keen/Haste +5 weapon

*Valen w/ Keen/Haste/+10/2D6 Acid Heavy Flail & +12 STR bonus

*Aribeth w/ Keen/Haste/+9/2D6 Acid Sword of Aramil & +12 STR bonus

They breezed through him, i hit him twice at best i think. So, try elemental damage.
