Question Hmmm.. Cant believe it!! But i need help...

Ok, this may go down in history as the most stupid question ever asked, but before you read it and laugh your pants off, heres what I have tried...

I have read the manual, I have read forum posts from several forums, I have clicked on everything, I have done every single thing I could possibly think of!!!

And I am no newbie to these games!! I have been playing since the early days of Dungeon master on the spectrum!!

But...

HOW in the name of all that is holy!! Do I USE ITEMS ON EACH OTHER?????????

Namely I am in Helms hold, and need to use the black grimoire (and in fact the etched gem on the pedestal in the from hall) on the alter but simply cannot!

I KNOW i'm missing something, but please dont rib me too hard )

Kutter.

Hmmm - I can't rightly remember - but have you tried to right click on the item (the book), and if so, does a "use" menu item appear?.
Otherwise - try right cliking the alter and see if there is a "convesation" or "use" menu item.

If not, let me know and I'll try to start a game up and test it.

BTW - don't sweat asking for help, we have most likely all needed some when playing a game. Otherwise, there would be little reason for such forums as this

Thanx for the quick reply Xan, and it seems that I havn't really done anything too stupid judging by your questions

I have tried all those things however. When you right click on the altar it does give a use icon but nothing happens when you click it. When you right click the item, it just gives examine and drop icons, and when you left click on the Altar it says something along the lines of 'If you had the right tome, you could activate this Altar!' (don't remeber exactly as I'm at work and can't look)

So as you see I'm completely stuck :P

I find this remarkably odd however, as everything else in the game is so intuitive, and this 'should' be one of the easiest things to work out, but bizzarely its not??

Also in Helms hold are the armour guards in the entrance. Here you need to use the Etched Gem on the pedestal to activate them ( i know this because after failing a million times I had to start looking at walkthroughs - which incidentally state that you 'use' the gem and 'use' the grimoire on the respective items, but dosn't say 'how' )

Did anyone else have this initial problem? I'ts hard to believe its just me lol...

Thx in advance,

Kutter

If the alter gives a "use" icon, try using it on the book and see if that helps. That is - right click alter, select use and select the book.

As for the guards - I don't know. I usually avoid thoese

EDIT: the more I think about it, the more I'm sure I*ve never done this - Have never explored Helms Keep much for some reason .... strange indeed - hehe.

You don't actually use the Grimoire on the altar like you might think you would. "Use" the altar again and it'll give you several options of how to use the Grimoire.

But before all this I think you have to talk to the deamon that has been summoned...
