Post hardware issue

I watched all those fancy 3D NWN demo and one thing comes to my mind, game speed. Bioware always does a good job on the game itself but not game speed though. I have P3-733, Nvidia GeForce2MX and PC-133 128 meg of ram with a full install, and my BG2 still runs crappy in battle or on certain map. I'm way over BG2's hareware requirement! I don't know, maybe BG2 need a 1ghz CPU to run and imagine what we'll need for NWN.

I had the same problem on my pc.
Each time I was in a big fight and a spell would be cast, the game would suddenly slow down hugely. Then I found out why.
The reason was I didn't have a 3D graphics card. I got one (a Riva, I don't have an AGP slot, so I couldn't get a GeForce2) and installed the entire thing, end then I checked "uses 3D acceleration in the Configuration Menu".
From then on the game went like a blast ànd I could play smoothly, even in 800x600.

Hope this helped you out.

What Hardware do You Recommend?
Posted Tuesday, November 7, 2000, 3:55 by Trout

Gamer asks what CPU and graphics card Bioware 'prefers'.

I know that some games have a tendency to favor a certain brand (3dfx,nvidia,etc) of video cards for their certain features or what have you. I also know that NWN already shows great compatibility with several main operating systems but i was wondering if the Bioware team has a certain video card,or better yet, a chipset in mind for NWN which would be ideal for its performance...

Our development workstations are mostly dual processor Intel P3 systems with Nvidia Geforce2 video cards. We have a few AMD systems in house and a variety of other cards and we will be optimizing for all platforms and all video cards before release.

The Requirements Cant be That Low!
Posted Friday, October 27, 2000, 7:26 by Trout

Gamer questions if the hardware requirements are as low as stated:

haven't been watching NWN very close thinking that (like most games today) it would require a PC more powerful than the one I have but I just checked the FAQ and it says that NWN only needs a Pen Pro 200 and a 3d card. I couldn't believe it, not even BG2 had a system req this low.

Has the FAQ just not been updated in a long time or will I actually be able to play NWN online with my P2 233 w/48mb ram and a TNT card?

the fact that in the multi player version the burden is split between the server and the client. That is, the server will do most of the CPU and number crunching work but wont need a 3D card or have to process any graphics, and the player client will just display what the server tells it to and thus have lower CPU demands.

HMMM not sure what the problem is.. I'm Running BGII on an AMD K6-2 333, 128 megs of pc100 SDRam, with a Velocity 4400 video card.. my system is almost 2 1/2 yrs old and it runs like a champ... I can't recall ever having it slow down at all so you might want to check your system settings to make sure the company who put your puter together didn't turn any of your components down in speed.. I know it sounds strange but some of them do it... Good luck and hope things get better for ya..
