giving henchmen equipment

on talking too Dorna Trapspringer before killing the Medusa at end of SoU an option was to modify or change her equipment eg:give her armor + cloaks,boots has this always been the case during the game and i've just over looked it or did this come in, in an update

It is a feature introduced in SOU and HoTU expansions, and likely the latter modules released from Bioware.

There is/was a HAK for the orignal NwN which allowed you to modify the equipment fo the henchmen aswell, although said equipment dissapered on level up Otherwise, it isn't in the original NwN.
