Having finally gotten onto the NWN website, due to laziness on my part. I read the brief description about in-game characters. And these included characters such as the town mayor, a paladin and thief. Question is, are these characters controlled by people in real time, or are they computer controlled?

If you mean the NPC's on the site, no they are computer controlled and you speak to them for the quests you have to do.

Uhm... not to seem particularly Chaotic Evil, but can those characters be killed?
Bit of a double-edged knife, IMO. If they can be killed, some punk would undoubtedly do so. If they cannot be killed, that would make no sense whatsoever... |

I thought that this game has several playing modes...I thought that you play the game's main campaign in single player mode, or at least it's possible to do so. This is what I've thought. To prevent some punks from killing everyone, play with your friends.

Probably 3 mages, 2 thieves (for backstabbing), an archer and 3 fighters. Probably all high level.
That or his name is Sauron and the nine are Nazgul.
