Base Attack Bonus Question

ok i am fond of the Monk level 30 Fighter 5 Shadowdancer 5 mix but i got a question.

depending on what levels i take at what time or how i level up i get different base attack bonuses.

i made 3 level 40 versions (cheated for XP to test) of this and they all have different Base Attack Bonuses.

i.e. add 16 levels of monk, then 4 of fighter, then 2 of SD, then 1 of monk, then 2 of SD, then 1 of fighter, then 1 SD, then 13 monk
gets different results then a monk to 20, 5 of fighter, 5 of SD, 13 of monk.

why is this?

I don't have the manual here (at work ) but I belive that the BAB gain for all classes changes after L20 (epic).
So for the first 20 levels you'll gain one patter, but as epic you'll gain another - thus accounting for the difference in BAB depending on how you take the classes.

But check the manuals listings of BAB gain for the excat numbers.
