Archanists Tower problem

I cannot get the portal to work. I keep on getting a message that says that I am using it in an inappropriate place. Where am I supposed to use it? I smashed the chest that it was in. Does that make a difference? Please help.

ah, because it's been awhile since i played that part of the game, provide some background. where exactly are you at in the game?

In SOU Chapter 2, in the Shadow Realm you have to fight the shadows to get to the Archanists Tower and fight the LIch (to get the Shadow Orb, I think - or dark orb, I forget which). You have to get the portal door from the trapped chest in the ARchanists room, and put it on the floor to get into the room with the Lich. It just keeps on saying that I am using it in an insufficient or inappropriate place, even though I am using it right where I got it. I have tried several different places but I still cannot seem to make this thing work.

you don't place the door on the ground, you activate/use it like an item

I know, I'm not dropping it, I am right clicking on it and trying to use it. But should I have left it in the chest?

no, i always just put it on my quick slot and used that to activate it whenever i wanted to use it.

Nope. When I click on it and try to use it, it is still saying "This is is an unsuitable location for use of the portal door." Is there a specific place I have to stand in the tower for it to work?

yeah, i had to put it in my quickbar as well. for some reason it didn't work for me to not do it that way.

Its been a while since I played SOU but if I remember right, you should be able to use it anywhere as after that bit of the game you can access the portal whenever you want as there is a guy in there you can buy stuff from.

okay, well, when i first used it, i cast it in the big blue circle of the bedroom floor and that worked... but i didn't do anything special otherwise and i would assume it works elsewhere too. Do you have all the updates for the game installed?
