| | | StarWars Galaxies I never really paid for the subscription and I want to know what it is like. Are you able to get in a ship and fly wherever you want on a planet, exit the atmosphere, or when you leave a planet, you select a planet to go to, then it takes you there kinda like KOTOR? |

| | Planetary travel: You can use shuttleports and starports to travel from city to city on a planet's surface.
You can also use your own ship (a fighter, freighter, luxury yacht, etc) to travel between starports on a planet.
A special type of transport vehicle is available to anyone who purchases the SWG Starter Kit - the Instant Travel vehicle. You can use this without a shuttleport or starport. You use it to pick you up in remote areas and transport you to any shuttleport or starport on that planet's surface.
Interplanetary travel: You can use a starport to travel to other planets. You can also simply use your own ship to travel to other planets. That's a cheaper (costs you nothing) and quicker way to travel around the galaxy.
Launching into Space: With Jump to Lightspeed added to SWG, an entirely new sphere of play opened up. You can launch into space from a planet and monkey around that planetary system in your ship. Depending on your faction, you can select different missions to do in space. Every player, regardless of profession, can be equally effective in space combat. Many people play the game just for this alone: I myself am addicted to cruising around in my X-Wing and dogfighting in space.
Another cool element: space combat is most definitely multiplayer. If you have the certification to fly the Millenium Falcon class of freighter, you and your group can man the ship in space. Your buds can man the turrets while you fly, for example.
You gain certifications to fly various starships by doing space quests and working your way through the Pilot profession. Pilot is a secondary profession at this time, meaning it is available to all characters regardless of primary profession. My goal is to gain the certification to fly the Jedi Starfighter, a sleek, and very cool, starship. (the X-Wing is clunky and slow compared to this one)
Starships have oodles of components and systems, so it's possible to improve your ships (you can have more than one) as you complete quests, salvage the wreckage of your foes in space, or make purchases from vendors on planets. Player Shipwrights can create hulls and all kinds of components. You can dock at space stations and repair your ships when needed. It's all quite nice and engaging, and perhaps the best part of SWG to date.

| | well, that about all the fun (besides some PvP) that SWG has now, after the hillarious "improve" called NGE. The previously full servers are now empty, and privates are developing an Emu of the Game to play the good times of the galaxies, it will be Pre-CU, beign CU the first big modification. MODs, it's been a while since a last posted in this forum, and I don't remember if this was allowed, if it's not, please be my guest and eliminate the followin link: www.swgemu.com
PD: thx in advance ( in any chance u dont take out the link |

| | Indeed. Well that may have ruined the game but when I started back in March or April of 06' I thought it was quite fun. I havent played since August though. I stopped playing because my time card ran out. They made an update for professions called "Expertise". Supposedly it made the game a TON funner and made up for NGE. I myself have not played it yet but in a couple days I am. I still talk to all my old friends from it on msn and they all LOVE it. It really made them happy so im looking forward to using it.
What the expertise does is basically, literally make you a light or dark jedi. You choose skills and upgrades to make those skills more powerful using some kind of credits from the character selection screen i believe. plz correct me if im wrong.
So you wont have the same skills like before as everyone else did. It will literally be a dual between a dark and light jedi. Or even nuetral with a mix of skills. You make your own builds and test them but they cost you those points that you get from leveling.
Add any info about the expertise system I missed guys cuz im not perfectly clear on it...yet |

| | | So far, the following professions have been given expertise: Jedi, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, and Officer. Up next: Commando, Medic, and Spy. Those three will be added with the Chapter 4 publish. That leaves Traders and Entertainers as the last ones to receive profession expertise.
Some thoughts/observations: lack of professional content. This is a weak spot the SOE developers need to address or they might face another mass exodus of membership, ala the CUs and the NGE. While expertise indeed makes gameplay more interesting, it only has so much value. We shall see.

| | this game is no fun anymore it lost its fun when legacy quests left u at 50 the pvp has lost it because only level 90 people show up and pown u like crazy. and that is the only place to pvp. on rori. boring no one plays it because no one is level 50 and they just get beat up. grinding takes forever even if u take really high level guys out. u can do quests but they just are to hard.

| | | dont play SWG imo SWG is just plain crap, and if u decide to play it u'll find this out pretty much right from the start, whats crap about it? well to name just a few things, no pvp from what i can see, i'm used to warcraft which introduces you to pvp as early as lvl 10 and puts you in your first contested area at around lvl 20 ish, also from the looks of things there isnt any end game content, so when u hit lvl 90 there isnt much to do other than start a new char, in wow when u hit 70 its pretty much where the fun begins. another point is there is no real incentive to interact/form groups since most quests can be done solo, in fact for the most part when i was playing the game it just felt like a massive 1 player rpg alot of the time, theres no real way to get new equipment, apart from quests that is, in wow u do instances/dungeons and get gear that way, or u can do quests but the gear in instances is far superior. the A.I of the npc's is terrible, like alot of the time npcs would aggro for no reason, if i'm outnubered with no way to win, i would try to run only to find that they can be a mile away seemingly and still hit me, there was even a time when i was on a speeder happened to aggro some npcs so i sped into a town only to find that the npcs can shoot round corners and through builings which is completly stupid, speaking of towns i often found that in starting towns like mos eisly and also one of the towns in naboo there are high lvl gaurds of the opposing faction just walking around, if they see you they will attack you, infact the only way to stop them from attacking you is to go on leave from whatever faction u joined, imo towns should have neutral gaurds not gaurds from both factions, it just goes to show how little soe thought this game through, pretty much the one good thing i can think of in this game, is the talents for the diffrent classes which incendently have no defined roles
for example, a warrior in warcraft can have 1 of 2 roles, a tank, for those of u that hasnt played warcraft, a tank is a main target for npc's or should be if he/she is a good tank, he protects the rest of the party by taking the majority of punishment, the 2nd roll of a warrior would be a damage dealer, either a moral strike warrior or a fury (duel wielding ) warrior from what i can see there is non of this in SWG. if you ask me, dont play SWG if ur looking for pvp or in depth pve then play wow its better in almost every way |

| | | I started playing when I was in the Beta and played for a little while after that before quitting (probably because my machine at the time wasn't up to running the game well on full settings and I hate to play in low settings... this was some time ago of course). I may get myself that Station access after payday as I have the need to have a go of Everquest and EQ2 (in between my LOTRO gaming times) and Station Access gives you access to all the SO games for £18 a months or something like that but SWG is one of the games I'll have access to so will probably give it another go. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
