Crafting is great fun. If you're a Scholar that means your vocation is Historian which means you're not only a Scholar but a Farmer and Weaponsmith but yea that would preclude you from boiling skins but you can still collect the raw hides and sell them at the auction house. Keep hold of them till you get 50 and then sell them at the auction house for a bumper payday. Players will pay top cash for raw materials. Saves them having to search themselves. As a Scholar remember to keep an eye out for ancient jars around ruins....
Farming will make you a fair bit of cash. It's quite cheap to do and you can sell your goods at the auction house. Just remember if the items you have are crafting items always sell them at the auction house rather than the local vendors who won't give you much for your items. Early in the game you do need to sell most of your wares at vendors in order to make cash to get better weapons and armour but the big bucks are made at the auctions houses.
Here's a list of vocation info if you're interested...

You can do but have to buy the North American Client of course. Not sure if you're able to play the NA trial but don't see why not? Remember though if you are using the downloaded client to play and pay for access after the trial I don't think you get the hi res texture pack unless you buy the boxed version. They may have changed that now but it used to be that way. Hi res textures make a big difference if your system is up to running them. Also if you are playing the NA version it means you can't play with the players using the EU client. I'm sure you realise that but just making sure

Yea there's a lot of action around the Shire although I find some of the quests dull. I gave up with delivering post after the first attempt. There are lots of fetching and carrying quests to and I prefer combat quests. Bree is where it all happens around your level although you need to be careful in Breeland (Southern Bree Fields west of Bree) as there are some pretty tought bears etc round there when you're 10th lvl that can be pretty tough. The Marshes are annoying too many midges

There are plenty of quests around Staddle that would suite you. There are quite a few Hobbits living round there. The Marshes are just east of Staddle and certainly stay well away from the Lone Lands (east along the road from Bree) as you won't survive there for long at 10th lvl.
You're as bad as me with screenies. I love taking screenshots of Middle Earth lol......
