I heard about this game from a friend of my, sounds realy intresting, no fee and it's a kind of MMORPG. Take a look at the website if you are intrested.

| | | I wished I had tried during E3, but on the site they say it's ought to be released midway 2004, so I don't have to wait that long.

| | | It looks interesting enough, and the lack of a monthly fee is an advantage that will probably help it gain a good enough following, I like the concept of character modification, in the form of aesthetics, it will give a much needed variance that it is lacking in many MMORPGS.

| | Played it a bit, here's my analysis:
They went a bit backward . I actually loved the old skill charm method, where you pick up skill "charms", and when you level up you can get skill points, and 1 skill charm + 1 skill point + 1 skill trainer = that skill. It gives incentives to getting exp and leveling up that simply doesn't exist anymore; pretty much all its for now is items and crafting stuff.
They've reformed many of the spells, unfortunately. For instance, Power Attack was a 5 energy attack that doubled the amount of damage done by your next attack. Galrath slash was an adrenaline-powered spell that tripled the damage by your next sword attack if it hits. "For Great Justice!" was a shout that lets your adrenaline skills recharge faster for the next X seconds. They made an excellent early warrior sword/shielder combo that I loved using; that's gone now =(.
Crafting is no longer free; you have to buy "crafting kits" that actually pinch your wallet quite a bit if you craft a lot. And, in the end, the crafted gear isn't THAT much better than your regular gear.
All in all I'd say the second trial run wasn't as fun as the first, and was a major disappointment to me. I knew they were going to make drastic changes to the first one, becuase there was a trick that could get you infinate gold (go to the rare gem trader, pay 50 gold to get a random skill gem of any type, sell it back for 150 gold, caz all gems are worth a lot, rinse repeat). But I had no idea they were going to go this far.
Fortunately, the game's still excellent, so if you've never played the alpha you're likely to still love the game anyway. But for me, it was a step backwards in so many ways I'm beginning to question whether I even want to buy the game .

| | | Too bad you think the new things are a step backwards instead of forwards.
For myself, this was the first time I played and I, as you said, loved it. The missions were great fun. But the downside was that there is not much to do besides the missions. You can try and craft some gear but for that you'll need much rescourses (scales, ignots...) wich are sometimes time consuming to get. So in these three days I didn't do it, I'd rather went to the Arena or do a mission.
But after all I think I will buy the game when it's released because I enjoyed almost every minute of the time I played this weekend, |

| | bad as any MMO game... (to see WHY I am not responsive to MMOs, check this thread http://gamebanshee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52793)
Its just not good. Heck its bad as far as MMOs go.. It has a rather poor selection of options, I played some of the open beta, days from shipping, and STILL so much content wasnt ready. Not only that, but the content that was there and the placeholders were just so LIMITED. I also didnt like only being able to use 8 of my skills which I must preset for an adventure... Yet I know that spell/way to hit with a weapon.... but I cant do it sorry.. why? because i didnt um... prepare it... ok Ill give it to you on preparing spells, but preparing special ways of hitting someone with your weapon? its just stupid... all attacks that you KNOW should be useable at ANY time (its just as stupid as WoW not allowing you to EAT higher level foods..)
I also disliked the way the game worked, and I am talking files here. There was an in game X button which closed the game and disconnected you immidiatly, with no warning window. And there were only three files in the directory.. which didnt really change size, and I think were less then the size of what it downloaded... I was wondering where all those downloaded files went too.. I have 3 harddrives which I maticulously selected and configured, i choose which and where to install the game for a reason, yet it didnt stay in its directory. And likely not even drive. (I got drive C, 20GB, windows only, with a 1GB pagefile formated in FAT, I got a 160GB drive D, on a IDE card, to which I download stuff with P2P and where I store documents and stuff its gt not page file since often I have 30 files being written/accessed at once, FAT formatted, I got another 160GB E drive on IDE card in which I have a 4GB page file, and where I keep large files that are not often accessed, like full length movies and cd images, and where I also install and run games from.)
This game makes me think of what longhorn windows will be with its ingenious "games run like on a consule" idea...where it self installs and does whatever it pleases.

| | | Just a little update. I've bought the Game a couple days ago and I must say it's been real fun. Some great missions and tons of side quests to do. Ofcourse there are some downsides, sometimes it's a bit time consuming to get people do join you party if you want to play with someone, but one can always hire henchman. The best thing however is to play with other people, I bought the game along with some other guys I know so if I want to do something cooperative I can always ask them. So conclusion, worth every penny till now, hope it stays this way and not become boring or anything.

| | It has been discussed before, it was turned down because there would be to less people around here playing Guild Wars to make a active forum. The reason is people who play this kind of games tend to go to official or semi-official forums. But I must say I would be happy to see here a nice active community of Guild Wars players.

| | | I don't know what you like about computer games or RPGs but I'll just explain what the nice parts are. I have only played PvE actually since I just bought the game last week. The most interesting part for me are the missions, they alter the plot and have some nice challanges. Too bad that for the most part it's just killing monsters and not much more. The next thing which I found entertaining to do was just go of in the wilderness and do some quests or just explore. I can say I am enjoying 99% of the time I'm playing, that 1% is some repetetive work/traveling but that's almost nothing compared to other MMORPGs. So my advise is, if you like some nice action in your RPG and some interesting quests and a whole extra PvP 'scene', which I haven't tried yet, buy they game!

| | What I particulary like about the game is the landscapes. The printscreenbutton is my friend.
Also, the game starts in Ascalon, a peacefull scene, green, cosy but the scene changes often. Barren landscapes are followed by snowy mountains and mossy jungles.
If you hate repetitive scenery: buy the game.
I'm going to play right now... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
