I'm also not sure if I should get the game. I saw X-play's review for it and it looked okay, but the fact that there's no monthly fee makes it seem all the more interesting.

This game really is only for the casual player. Sure it's free, but you still have to pay for the expansions, and one expansion can cost about 4-5 months of gameplay. Once they start coming out with expansions. Don't be fooled by the no monthly fee draw-in. But in the end you're sure to end up paying a little less than a regular mmo, but the thing is regular mmo's have more to offer. You can max level in a weekend here, but it allows a nice pvp environment to ensure high level hardcoreist don't gank the casual players. Here you really get your money's worth. Because it's only enjoyable if you are a casual player. Other mmo's are better for the not so casual gamer. That's my state.

You will not have to purchase the expansion. ArenaNet has claimed they will put out expansions every 6-9 months. One will not have to purchase these expansions to continue playing, but you will have to purchase an expansion to get the new features. The original game was released for $49.99 U.S. in most areas I believe, so I will assume that the expansions will not cost more than that. MMORPG's such as WoW (upcoming expansion), DAoC, and EQ have put out expansions too and last time I checked they were not free either.

I will agree that this game is great for the casual player, since they don't feel obligated to play in order to get their money's worth. But this is one of the things that attracted me (and other older gamers) to GW. As a person with a job and a family, I don't have 20+ hours a week to dedicate to a video game. I think that the GW community is more mature as a result, which is something I definitely appreciate. I would usually rather play with others over the age of 25 because of the things we have in common and because I often find playing with children to be annoying.

Personally, I have really enjoyed this game. I would suggest that people research ANY game to have a good idea if it's for them. The game itself has received great reviews overall, just like all these games I have mentioned. They're all good games apparently.

uhm, yeah... i was wondering if anyone would demand a seperate forums for this, otherwise i would, great game, and it's not kind of it is a MMORPG, just way cooler than most, lesser graphic than everquest 2 less cartoony that WoW, but nicer because there is a level-cap (lvl20) everyone can become a major player in the game, it takes skill, not hours played to become great, naturally you can use template and calculators from the internet, if you have NO imagination, and don't know how to play a game... but taken that there are only 30 options for a player's proffesions, you must show yourself in combining your powers to the best use

of course there is also the great idea of havng the world to yourself, and teammembers alone, for whenever you travel outside a safe zone (city or outpost) the world you enter only gets loaded to you and your at that time chosen team, so no more spawnkilling, orkillstealing, loot gets assinged so no quarrels about that.

finally updates and fixes and maps get streamed to you while playing, so that you never have to stop, also this means that you only get the map-updates for the maps you can access, so no need to wait 20 minutes for a fix for a location that your starting character can't reach in 2 months time anyway...

oh, and naturally, no monthly fee...

Note that I posted that quite a while ago... I have figured out what the game is like by now, after 3 months of playing it.

Btw the request for a seperate forum has been made already. But it was turned down since there are not many people around here who play the game.

I've been thinking of buying the game because I'm entirely out of rpg's to play (or just good games for that matter... i'm sick of madden) and i need my fix . However my experience with mmorpg's has been lukewarm at best as I tend to be clinically obsessed for three-four weeks and then lose interest due to no story advancement, repetitive gameplay, etc. I've played Dark Age of Camelot and Star Wars Galaxies, two entirely different games, and I liked both of them, but just lost interest.

I've read all the other posts in this thread, but could someone answer me this: Is there anything in this game that you think, from what I've said above, will keep me playing longer than one month? I loved the player community in Galaxies and the PvP of Camelot, so this game sounds intriguing.

You guys think it's worth it?
On another note, will anyone group with me if I do buy it? I swear I'm not too annoying .

It's hard to say if you will loose interest or not. I have it for 3 months now and still play, but not as much as the first weeks.

I think the one thing that will keep you playing is the PvP part of the game, once you start to lose interest I think you can play endlesly in Guild battles or start to play te roleplaying parts again with friends or people from your Guild. I think that is a whole other part of the game, it's a more social aspect. Anyway I guess, if you buy the game you can always join the guild I'm in, I'm in it with some friends of mine and it's starting to get more serious at the moment. Just pm me if you're interested...
