| | | How do you mean, browser games? Multiplayer titles, or "casual" games, the kind of thing that can be played succcessfully through in a few hours?

| | I'd say a browser game was anything played in a browser that didn't need a client. So often they are called MMO's these days and although they are multiplayer games I've always considered an MMO a game with a client. I think it's confusing for a lot of people calling them MMO's because they don't expect the game to be played in the browser.
At any rate I've played loads of browser games and there are only two that have stood out to me! Most are the same sort of games with just a different name and consist of resource gathering and number crunching with no graphics to speak of.
The two I've found to be outstanding and original are Welcome to the Renaissance Kingdoms which is a mix of RPG and strategy. Set in Medieval Europe you create a character and then set about earning a living in a certain town (in England for me), there are a lot of RPG opportunities via the forum and you can gain titles etc. Different factions can go to war, councils are elected there's a plater controlled economy etc. Great fun.
The other is KnightsDivine which was origianlly a German game. This link is to the English version. You actually have a REAL map rather than one made up of numbers and can see your armies move on it. You manages town and cities and there's quite a large research system as well as a Kingdom system (similar to guilds) but in this case when your kingdom is conquered by another you become part of their Kingdom rather than lose your town etc.
I've played many more such as Knight Fight, Ogame, Tribal Wars, Travian, Mythic Wars, Human Age, Khan Wars, Gladiatus, Battleknight, Civ online, War of Empires, PArdus, Chosen Space, Astro Empires and several others but they eventually bore me. A lot of the browser games are essentially the same with just different names and settings but the two links above are quite original and a lot of fun to play. |

Heck, I also remember that even Facebook have this kind of browser-based game as well.

| | | Yea 90% of the browser games are essentially the same engine and there are a few that are fun for a limited amount of time although I'd have to say the links I added above are better than most and quite original. A lot of browser games are full of kids as well due to the fact that they're free and you don't need any prerequisites to create an account. |

It's a sci fi version of Imperia Online. Again, in my opinion, the only original browser games I've found in my many experiences of browser games are Renaissance Kingdoms and Knights Divine. At least 75% of Browser games are the same system with just different faces.... |

| | hrm i do not play any Browser game right now.
since i do have a job and therefor no time for it.
but i used to play WOG for 5 rounds, Eijay for 2 rounds
and recently played BAF, which just startet a new round.
Its quite fun to play if you really have to much time, otherwise it would be very frustating to play really good BGs, but this is my opinion and im quite an elite player
if you think, how could somebody be "elite" in such an fun game, well think of login in atleast every hour, also at night, spying out your enemys, gathering online times, building databases to get the presice formula, to optimize your build, pushing strats to improve more quickly, spying out enemy Alliances with "real" spys, bash your sourrounding 2-3 times a day etc.

| | | As I said earlier most Browser games are basically the same sort of engine; lots of number crucnhing and very little graphics. There are a few original ones but the only original ideas I've come across are with Renaissance Kingdoms, Knights Divine and Second Home. I've just started playing the latter again (second-home.org) and it does have a steep learning curve but is very enjoyable. Graphics are nice, decent maps, lots of trade and resource gather (but not in the usual number crunching way) and it also has an in game newspaper that people post in. There are some really good ones if you search for them but most of the games out there are very repetitive. |
