Pinnacle Station: Hunt

I CANNOT beat the hunt missions no matter what I do. I don't comprehend at all how you're supposed to do this.

Either I'm missing something or they didn't check how doable the Hunt missions were before they released it >_<

On my first try on Volcanic Hunt, I got 41, only 3 away from winning, so I figured if I did that well on my first try that my second try would get it fairly easily. I was mistaken. Since then the highest I've ever gotten is 31, I don't understand what I did differently...

Can someone explain to me how you're supposed to beat this? (BTW I'm on hardcore and if at all possible I'm not going to change difficulty to beat this)

Also I have some trouble with the tropical time trial, I've done it 3 times and I've always been at least 2-3 seconds behind the top score, I don't know what to do differently...
