| | | This game's all about balance.
The items you look ofr depend on the type of your character.
A strong build to try is a an aracher type (ranged weapons, evasion and that tribal healing thing with absoirb spirit)
Try to find carnage items, plus skill items and a good amount of defense items (such as protection gear). |

| | | ranged, protective divine, fortitude divine for skills
trait:gifted
stats st 2 (carrying only and its enough u can get boots to help u carry as well), pe 8 (3 bonus ranged dmg max to get from start) en 6, in 10, ag 10, lk 10 (for sniper perk at level 33)
perks: bonus ranged damge (gives +3 very nice), bonus rate of fire, sniper here and now (at level 32, free level and then get sniper, with luck 10 u will always get crits)
Other good perks: damage resistance*2, educated
This will make this game pretty easy.
items are random mostly and with this build there i no need to worry about items. U will get enough good items. |

| | Only YOU know the style of play most suited to you. Trying to go with another person's preferences may not suit you at all; so, by all means try out some-one's recommendations, but don't feel you have to keep that char 'because it is best'. For you it may not be. BUT - you can learn a lot from any char you try, and then go on to use that knowledge to make a char that suits YOU.
Having said that!
I suggest you make your first char a PUREBLOOD. Other people will like you better, so the game is easier to play in the city. Also, you have no racial traits - which all have a bad side to them - so no disadvantages.
Personally, I like a char to have decent STRENGTH. It helps in melee fighting, as well as carrying, and even a Ranged weapon user can benefit from using melee weapons. But that's just my preference.
Chosen Traits: I like Ascetic, because it gives a starting extra 10 skill points. You do lose out on 10% of found gold, but I don't care about that. You get plenty anyway.
Of the others, I like Studious Tinkerer best; you get a 15 point bonus to Lockpick (VERY USEFUL skill), and all magic that you select at startup gets a +4 starter instead of a +1, even if it is not the school you chose as your primary magic (This is where tose 10 extra points come in handy). You DO lose 1 point to your Perception, but you can soon get this replaced by an early quest.
The Thieving skill DIPLOMACY is VERY USEFUL, as is the TRAIT Charisma.
I'll leave it at that.

| | | played all builds in lionheart, the best for powergaming is by FAR the ranged char. not my fav way of gaming, i like melee but the game definetley gives u a big edge with ranged.
diplomacy lets u talk urself out of several boss fights (including the last) if it is high enough, but u can just kill the bosses as easily without breaking a sweat.
However the best ending comes from talking to the last boss (using high diplomacy) |

| | Meh. I don't do the powergaming thing. I prefer roleplaying. Each to his/her own! But, yes, Ranged is good. Very good. |

| | Hmmm... I never thought about balance. I just played it. Started and re-started until I knew how to make a char of any kind that worked. Feralkin was the only one I didn't like playing; never took one to the end. But I think that was because I didn't like the look of Feralkin, more than anything else. And I didn't like Bestial Magic, either. Although I actually liked the Bestial spirit best, personalitywise! Not oversweet like the Divine, not waspish like the Thought, but quite laid-back and cool! Mostly. |

| | | i like feralkin and thier looks but its not so nice when npc refer to u as an animal, so pureblood is much sweeter for rpg, at least for me. Played feralkin pretty much though.
feralkin has the brutish hulk perk which is nice for powergaming hps but u will have to spend many pts in str so it might not be worth it with a ranged char, but with a melee its a good build. |

| | My favourite was always Demokin. Played more Demokin than any other. Usually took the Forked Tongue Racial Trait for the bonus to Speech skill, which helped in lots of ways! The race has decent Magic as well, though not so much as Sylvant.
I prefer magic to brute force. Though brute force can be very handy, lol! |

| | | My character is pureblood human with level 47 (I wanted to play demokin but I've chosen human to avoid persecution)
I decided to develop as versatile character as possible, even if that means serious handicap to his fighting skills. I invested mainly in speech, barter, heal, necromancy, one-handed and lockpick abilites. Currently he has: 185 one-handed, 120 evasion, 161 lockpick, 204 speech, 184 barter, 155 heal, 108 necromancy, 100 sneak + 30 useful perks
Attributes show weak physical skills (7 strength, 5 endurance) but strong intellect (11 intelligence, 15 luck) Overall I'm very satisfied cause, I can talk anyone into doing what I want (including main villain), but when comes to fight I can seriously kick ass as well (although not as effective as other same level bozos). |

| | 7 Strength and 5 Endurance isn't great for a Melee player, I agree. But passable. I think I'd have boosted the Endurance stat, myself.
The rest sounds great. |
