Looking after Fang

I'm new at this game!...I've found Fang and I want to keep him safe (he's a bit of a liability in a large punch up with the goblins)......can i park him somewhere and get him back? Can I take him to Barcelona, Have other posters had him along too? Any tips please? :

Followers are pretty useless, and they used to corrupt saved game files, and so I never used them more than necessary.

But if you want followers like Fang to tag along, there's an option to tell them to stand still rather than follow you, and so you can keep them out of most battles. (They'll still follow you from zone to zone, but they'll stay at the entrance.)
