Forcefield deactivation

How do I go about using the scepter on the crosses to deactivate the forcefield? I can destroy and create the cross on the ground level to my hearts content, but my scepter is powerless against the crosses in the lower level.

I realize it'll be something painfully obvious, but I'm at a loss - help!

Ahh, I didn't realize there was a destroyed cross nearby. I kept trying to destroy the existing crosses!
