| | Wow! I shall have to get a move on! My girl is only lvl23!
Nice character. You seem to be doing ok now.
I have done the upper level of the Crypt, but not been downstairs yet. I want to do Nostradamus before I finish the Crypt. The Crypt is easier than Nostradamus, imo, and I wanted to go up a few levels before tackling it.
Trouble is - she had hauberk armour and belt of titan that really helped her Unarmed skill (I still have them) but I found a suit of Full Plate Mail that adds about 17 to Fortitude that I just couldn't NOT wear, even though it meant losing some Unarmed points. I have Gauntlets of Giant Strenth, and since I found a belt of Brawling, I have both gained and lost - gained armour, some brawling, but lost 1 point of STR (which shows in her performance).
Dunno how I shall do with Nostradamus map. Just got there.
I still don't have a Ring of the Iron Fist, dammit! |

I am VERY pleased with this character. Most of the time she creams everything in her path with very little trouble. She can even take on 2-3 Revenants with fists only, providing she casts heal fairly often.
Did I say I wasn't finding good stuff? The Crypt has changed that! (but I bought that helm she's wearing, AND the full plate). But STILL no ring of the iron fist. If you have one, I shall sulk! |

| | I'm.... gobsmacked is the only word to desribe it.
Ok, she's level 37 in the Druids place. She searches a set of shelves and a potion and two rings fall out.
The first ring was VERY nice - if you happen to be a blade figher, which she isn't, but I was impressed anyway. I have never found such a ring in any game of Lionheart I've played: Ring of Laceration = +15% Slash Damage, +15 points to 1 & 2 Hand Melee skills.
Picked up the second ring, expecting it to be a Ring of Protection - and so it is; but SO much more! - and sat there staring at it in total disbelief. I have NEVER got TWO powerful rings in the same Chest/whatever, EVER: Ring of Protection, The Brawler, & The Metal Fist = +11 AC, +3 Unarmed skill, +5 Unarmed Damage, +14 points to Unarmed skill, 14% more Unarmed Damage, -8 all weapon skills.
I'm expecting it to vanish, and have to keep looking at it... |

| | Very impressive.
I haven't played that much over the last few days as I got a new game to play, but I started on the Crypt which hasn't been that easy so far.
I might just go off to Nostradamus' Caverns and see what can be found there and return to the Crypts after.
Looks like you're gaining momentum again, my character is only at level 21. |

| | | Heh. Yeah, I know. I'm not going to abandon it though.
The Bard's Tale. It's quite good, but I did get stuck on it, so I'll probably be going back to Lionheart, though as I go back to University on Monday, I won't have that much of an opportunity to play games (I don't have them on this computer). |

| | | I've checked a couple of sites on Bard's Tale and they have quite mixed reactions to it, so loving it, some saying it's rubbish. I'm inclined to go buy it anyway... but tell me... er... is it suitable for an old woman? I mean... it seems he is all out for sex... so... is it in any way visible? Or is it like the bit with the thief in her private room where it just goes dark and you hear an 'Ahhhh'? I don't mind that, but I have no desire to see a ... performance. I'm a bit of a prude.
Meant to ask: what uni are you at? I was at Birmingham Uni myself, doing Eng Lit and Lang with a bit of Old Icelandic as subsidiary.

| | Well, it's marked 12+, so I doubt there would be anything explicit like you describe (I would expedct it to be a 15 or 18 if there was). I haven't played through enough of the game to give you the kind of answer you're looking for, the rating should be a good indicator though.
I go to Greenwich University in London. I'm in the second year of a Computing course which has been good so far.
And my Lionheart progress today:
I've levelled up a couple of times, cleared out the first floor of the Crypt, I'm getting encounters with trios of Greater Skeletons rather than the trio of Revenants so far (I think it depends on the character level before enemies switch- the same seems to apply for Brimstone Soul Reavers becoming Mana Reavers and Ghouls to Huge Ghouls).
I had to retreat a lot to kill many of those Giant Skeletons, once I had one or two to battle, I was able to defeat them, otherwise my character usually ended up dead (unless I used potions extensively anyway). I found a Chain mail of Protection and Fortitude (+11, +19 I think), which seems quite good and now I'll probably go searching stores and decide whether to go to the Caverns next or the next floor of the Crypt. |

| | Ohh! Nice armour! My favourite armour is Hauberk, but I don't think it offers enough protection later in the game, so I switch to Plate or Full Plate eventually.
Currently, my char has just entered the Maw of the Assassin. Sweet-talked past the mythical beast.
This time I killed the Desert Spirits, because you get no XP for just giving 'em the gold they demand. I didn't expect them to be so tough. As a result, I now have no healing potions, and I have no mind to go buy some from the vendor in the first desert area. We'll see how we get on.
I have sold all Ranged weapons, arrows and bolts, only retaining the everlasting ones. I intend to reach the end of the game with Unarmed only. Her Sneak skill is 94 now, so with Stealth potions it should work ok. I hope. If not, I have a couple of Ranged spells: Ice Javelin and Celestial Smite. You MUST be able to complete without Ranged. Otherwise, why bother with the other weapons skills?
Yes, I agree your level counts to some extent when it comes to what shows up to fight. But not always. I have been pretty low-level in the Sewers Crypt and have had lots of Greater Skeletons - but other times hardly any with higher level. I think some other factor applies as well. Possibly Strength or Luck.
I shoulda figured you were doing Computing at Uni! I'm glad you are enjoying it.
As part of my English (Language) course (I was a mature student, graduated at age 60) we did some computer language. Complicated. I only got a pass with that one!
What I WOULD like to learn is how to take a computer to bits and build it up again, and how to upgrade it myself. Practical stuff, you know? It costs to get other people to do it for you.

(She actually went up another level during the last conversation of the game, finishing at level 49, and I poured all the points into ICE to give her Ice Missile which did VERY nice damage to the final enemy, combined with fists , and finished him off pretty fast. The two nice people in that scene also survived. ) Items worth mentioning, mostly already described in previous posts:
Bow of Fiery Smite (useless to her!)
Chain of Mastery (equipped just before level-up only)
Full Plate of Brawling Full Plate of Dragonscales, Carrying and Protection = +14 Fire Resist, +10% damage done to all who attack her physically, +50 Carrying, +18 AC Gauntlets La Mancha
Helm Poison Resist, Cold Resist, Hard Bargaining Helm Poison Resist, Cold Resist, Focused Logic Amulet Protect and Fire Resist
Belt Brawling Marco Polo's Boots

10 Firepowder kegs
4 scrolls STR
Lots of other Rings, Amulets, Boots and stuff, but some already desribed and the rest not worth it.
GOLD: 372661
This was an excellent character. I wanted to know if you could complete without Ranged weapons, and the answer is YES! Most decidedly you can! It helps to have at least one decent Ranged SPELL, though I only had to use it on a VERY few occasions in the Old Man's place. Sneak is very handy as well, though stealth potions help with that.
I remained pleased with this character throughout the whole game.
I won't say the last few areas were a doddle, because they were not. However, by no means as challenging as I thought they would be without Ranged.
To be honest, I didn't really believe it could be done. I just knew it HAD to be possible, LOL!

How was the Slayer perk? I may get round to selecting it when I reach the requirements. Quote:

| As in programming languages? Yeah, they are complex. I've been learning Java for the last year and a half and just started on another language called C++.
It's a useful skill to have, it's not all too hard though, most of it is fitting plugs and cards into sockets (unless you have to replace the motherboard which is a bigger job). The important thing to know is to earth yourself (simply by touching a piece of the metal computer case or getting some anti-static gear).

| | I didn't really notice the Slayer perk much at first. It didn't seem to do a lot - but then I realised I actually WAS doing quite a lot more critical hits. But... I wasn't sure if that was the Slayer Perk or the More Critical Hits Perk taken at level 44. (and then again at 47, giving a total of 10% more Crits). I expect it was a combination of the Perks.
Yes, it was some darned computer programming language I think. Confused my tiny mind dreadfully!
The practical side of plugging in and taking out stuff is MUCH more my thing - but I can't find any local classes.
I thought you were supposed to unplug the machine first, so you wouldn't need insulation? I have no intention of opening and messing with a monitor, which I know is damn stupid and almost certainly lethal - but the box isn't, is it? |

| | | Hmm. I remember taking the More Criticals perk when I first played the game, but I didn't see enough of an effect at the time to keep selecting it.
Wasn't Slayer the perk that meant enemies died on critical hits? I can't remember.
Heh. It's like the languages are built to confuse people. It seems a bit odd that they would teach them in an English course - unless they included Structured English/Pseudocode too (it's supposed to be accessible to all programmers, information that can be used by all the programming languages to write programs).
I thought the idea was to keep the machine plugged in (definitely turned off though) so there is an earthing link from the computer case (via the power cable).
Going into a monitor would be pointless unless you knew the internal mechanics of a monitor anyway and most faults are more likely to be software or cable related.
It's not lethal to go into a computer case, but earthing yourself through getting rid of static electricity is important, it easily damages the delicate parts inside. |

It was about nine years ago. My brain considerately erased the details quite quickly. Just like it erased Old Icelandic - only that was just before my eyes fell on the last passage for translation. I have always been afraid of elecricity since I saw my brother get electrocuted. He was ok, just burned on his hand and badly shaken, but I was only a kid at the time, and I saw it. Quote: |
