Wow, I'm surprised you're having that much trouble. You've probably tried all the stuff I would (Mana, Stealth + Healing potions, Ice protection scrolls and items). Hmm, anyway, good luck...

As for myself, I've cleared out the first level of the English fortress and I'm up to level 37 now.

Yeah, done all that, and more. She is in the actual Wash area, where it seals behind you, you know? and acid floods into the place. There are the two Master Assassins on a corner on the upper level. I let her stand in the acid (protected with Acid Resist scroll) until the acid drops away, then move carefully forward until she can JUST see them dimly. She dumps Ice Storm on them, but they are resistant to cold, so the damage is not so great. They are resistant to fire, as well, and she only has Fireball anyway. I forgot to add points into Electrical, which is more effective against them and she doesn't have Celestial Smite, either, which my other chars did.
Besides which, they don't just stand there, as most of 'em do if you can barely see them: they rush towards her, on their raised level, and she has nowhere to get out of range of their Ice Missiles. If she rushes past them, or tries to Sneak past them, there are so many attackers she drops dead in no time flat.
I'm genuinely stuck.

Well, I would have said sneak past them, up the stairs and then up towards the top of the area - out of the range of everyone, then double back (drinking a potion of Stealth and using anything that could increase your speed), but I expect you've tried that too.
What about Firepowder Kegs? Did I manage to convince you of the value of those enough to start stockpiling them? Those could work, lay 3 of them if you have them in a position near to them while in Stealth (whether on or below the raised area, then retreat).

Eventually, I'll get to the end...

Hey does Choi have an unlimited supply of kegs or does he get new ones at different points in the game? You've convinced me to get some just in case, but I don't want to haul them around if I'm just going to end up saving em till the end.

Oh yes. Been there, done that... not got the t-shirt, though.

Done that, too. I only had 6 kegs left, used 3, injured them but not enough, and I finished up nice and dead anyway. Re-loaded, dropped the 6 under them, more badly injured, but my char still ended up dead.

I dare say I'll get 'em eventually - but I figure if I'm having such difficulty with them, how will I manage at the end? Her strength IS STRENGTH (with items, she has 14 STR, ), but what good is it to her if she can't actually HIT anything with a weapon?
I'm not playing at the moment. I'll certainly go back and try again, though. I hate being beaten by a damn game just because I made mistakes in character development!

I know you will. But you are busy studying, as well, aren't you?

Yes, I think so. You can't go out of the shop and right back in to find some more - but go off and do stuff, then come back, and he will have another 3. Only the first 3 weigh anything. After that, you can add to them without adding to your carryweight, so it is no problem to cart a lot around with you. Imagine you have an invisible donkey carrying them for you.

@BOF, some merchants, like Weng Choi and the merchant in the Crossroads I try to go back to every time I gain a level. Those merchants always seem to have ne inventories then.

Do you get noticed while trying to get up there or is it that you get overwhelmed when you double back?

My trouble is, since I have beaten the game quite easily several times since I came to this forum, that I was over-confident and thought she would swan through there like all the other chars. I just concentrated mainly on Strength and her Ice spells.

She has rubbish Sneak skill, so, even with potions, she gets seen when she is very close to those damned Master Assassins, and then some Bowmen see her too and start shooting. Once she has dumped the barrels, she has to stay put, being fired at with Ice Missiles and arrows, until the barrels explode, or they leave the spot to chase after her, and the barrels are wasted. Same when she drops an Ice Storm on them - if she moves away, they follow her, leaving the area of damage. So she has to stand there firing Ice javelins at them for the duration of the Ice Storm spell. She has only ONE healing potion.
All my own fault.
Teach me not to be so damned smug!

Well, I was thinking Sneak as far as you can, then make a run for it, carrying on in the same direction, pressing the trigger that retracts the stair barriers and going back up to the previous level. Then you can heal, return and then you have points of access to that area and hopefully you can split their forces...

As for myself, I'm now up to Level 41, I've taken the Fortune Finder and Slayer perks which have been a little disappointing, I'm not hitting (for any damage) more often than I was previously...
Now, I've entered the fortress in the desert and started the clearing out.

Tried it. Finish up dead every time. I've quit the game for now cos I'm fed up with it.
Started over with another char, who is now lvl 14 and just about to wipe the slaver map clean, having done everything else possible.

I found Slayer a bit disappointing as well. I suppose it MUST do something... I've never bothered with Fortune Finder.

Go, man, go!

Cool!
Yes - BallOfFire plays Lionheart on-line. Talk to him about it.

@SpaceACE, I haven't tried the online multiplayer feature yet...

@Fljots, Well, I'm past the point you were stuck on after taking the Sniper perk, it's the ranged equivalent of Slayer.
I was able to take on two Assassin Masters at a time with a crossbow or magic enhancements/potions.

Now I'm about halfway through the third level down...who knows, I might finish tomorrow.

@Ravager: About the Slayer perk being disappointing, I think that critical hits just plain don't work right in Lionheart. My character has -27% chance for critical hits, and yet he gets them about... 27% of the time ><. If the negative and positive thing is so screwed up, I don't even want to know what Slayer would do to the chances.

@Fljotsdale: As sad as it is that you can't progress, that says a lot for Lionherat in my opinion. Almost every RPG I've ever played had some very cheap exploit that you could use to win any battle, which just made those games boring.

@SpaceACE: I've played online. There are usually only a couple games going at a time on GameSpy (the default multiplayer thingie). I just got a friend to get the game and play with me, but its not as fun as I expected. Lionheart does a great job with making player multiplayer easy: you host, start a new game or load an old game, and other people can connect at any time and instantly appear next to your character. But there are three things that really piss me off about the multiplayer.

First of all, if you don't load a saved game with both players saved in it, the other player has to import a character. This means that you can't play multiplayer, then play alone for a while while the other person does other stuff, and then have them just join in again. They will have to import and lose all their items. This means that if you make a character for multiplayer you are going to have to play him only on multiplayer unless you want to screw up the people you are playing with (assuming you are host).

The second problem is that there is no import button. It automatically loads your most recent exported/played (I'm not sure which) character if you play a new game. This is just a minor thing though, and once you figure out what is happening its not a problem, it just makes starting a multiplayer game for the first time confusing.

The third problem is that enemies are MUCH stronger in multiplayer. I was happy to find this at first, because otherwise multiplayer would just feel like a cheat. The problem is that there seem to be more enemies, they all have more hit points, and incredibly high armor class, so each battle lasts a LONG time and by the end you have no more health or mana. This becomes a huge problem because you have no mana to heal and not enough orbs since there are two people to replenish mana or health. I'm not sure how possible multiplayer is, because I really didn't spend much time on it (about 9 levels). Also, at the time I was playing it I didn't know about the Target feature, so it might have been a lot easier if I had decreased my attack speed so I could actually hit things. The same goes for the guy I was playing with.
