Will Jade Empire be a Xbox only game or will it come to the PC aswell?
Bioware isnt realy helping much with an awnser.
At the moment it's for Xbox only but they leave the PC option open!?

This thread on the bioware forums answers your question Stilgar! It's underlined several times that no PC version will be made.
Very frustrating, in my opinion. I'd rather it was for both platforms of course.
Cheers,

| | | There's a perception among some of the hotshot producers--unwarranted, by all the studies that have been done--that PC games don't sell. Nevermind that the generation which was brought up on PC games is still playing them as adults; nevermind that the kids who were playing platforms are now using PCs in school, and finding the joys of PC games. Nevermind that select PC games are selling better than ever before. This is one of those "It is because it is" beliefs, like the one in the mid 90s which said RPGs were dead, or that multiplayer online games wouldn't become popular until 2010, at the earliest.

While the decision now remains one that JA will not see PC, I won't be surprised if, providing it sells well, Bioware caves, and decides after a year or so, to make a PC port...
I mean, Microsoft did the same with Halo, once they say it's success on the Xbox. |

| | | Stupid Bioware... I think it's stupid of Bioware, no matter how good of a developer they are. I mean, with the success they had of KOTOR on the pc, you'd think they'd actually release Jade Empire onto it; they could only get more money...

| | | They've got other projects they are working on for the PC, and probably neither have the time, money or manpower to port Jade Empires over. It is possible, as Aegis said, that if JE makes a huge amount of money they will port it. But I wouldn't hold your breath!!

| | | The point about the GBA/Nokia was no doubt a joke. You don't usually see GBA/Nokia owners who have no xbox insisting the game should be ported to their platform of choice.
3D fighters, with camera relative movement are a staple on consoles but are rare and not very intuitive on the PC (camera relative controls with a keyboard is most people's idea of hell). So xbox it is, Its how they designed it, so its how I'll play it.
Your point about Halo is a double edged sword. It took YEARS for it to be ported, it began as a game for mac and pcs, and its a shooter, the most intuitive game type for PCs. No one denies shooters play better with a keyboard, a mouse and the latest $500 video card. Then look at when they finally released it (at a budget price), right when the Halo 2 hype was lifting off...

| | | One mustn't forget that bioware is also making Dragon Age, which will be ONLY for the PC. So half is making JE and the other DA. Xbox and PC. Evil and Good. I just don't understand WHY they didn't make both for PC... just as I don't understand why they didn't add multiplayer to KOTOR. |

No, no, I know. Multiplayer isn't that bad, for some people. I certainly have a personal preference against multiplayer, and I am very glad that KotOR didn't have multiplayer. I'm hoping that Dragon Age doesn't either (although I think it will, and suffer for it).
Cheers,

| That's not entirely true. The PC has shown that these sort of games function enormously well on the platform, as well as on the console. A perfect example is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It mixed the platform style of 3D combat with an extremely capable camera function. With this particular argument you present, though, it's not so much that a PC cannot do camera angles properly, it's just hat the platform genre (which Jade Empire is akin to) is still highly dominated by the console market, where the PC has other genres that sell incredably well. | Actually, the official annoucement that Halo would be ported to the PC came roughly 3 months before the official annoucement of Halo 2. At the time, the public had nothing greater than speculation that Halo 2 was even in the works, as both Microsoft and Bungie were quite tight-lipped about the project. Not only that, but the hype machine for Halo 2 begin roughly last spring, a full 6 months after the port release of Halo. As for the time period between initial release, and port release, it's a rather moot point, in the fact that porting on these newer generation consoles is not that difficult. It came down economics. Microsoft wanted it's console to sell enormously well, and what better way to do so, than to deny any other platform one of the 'greatest' first person shooters. By making it an X-Box exclusive, the console was able to move paste its rough initial release, and became a powerful contender. |

| | They don't release it for PC because they think, like many companies do, that it's harder to pirate an Xbox game vs. a PC game, etc etc. I'm not getting into that debate though.
The bottom line for me: if it's not on PC, it's not worth playing. Period. I spent a lot of money on this PC, and I'm not running out and buying every $400 console three times a year... especially when my PC is far superior anyway.
I was moderately interested in Jade empire, but not after realizing it's not for the PC. I'll just play a different game. |
