really it just depends on how you define "power" and your style of play.

in all of my games so far the strong ftr type w/ two handed weapons usually account for the lion's share of kills, followed by the sorc.

one advantage the sorc has though is the reach out and kill things w/ just one spell. disintegrate or finger o' death or even chromatic orb, have very quick impact. and can destroy very tough opponents quickly.

I think you've already answered your own question. You also get bonus points for realizing that 2-handed weapons are better than dual-wielding in IwDII. Also, the axe is also a good choice for a barbarian. There are a few good 2-handed axes in the game, and you'll then be able to use throwing axes for those times when you'd just rather use ranged weapons.

Has my vote, though I'd throw in a single level as a ranger and at least one level as a fighter. Had a character like that in my game. Give him a few moments to cast a spell or two, and he was more powerful than my pure fighter, unless the latter used some items and/or potions. Just my POV.

But remember, too, power depends upon the situation. Some enemies fall before melee; others require magic. Some can't stand holy attacks, or require turning.

Yes koz-ivan there is the question of how to define power. The halforc is most likly the one that is going to do most damage overall but the Druid wont be bad when he shapechanges and use some of his bosting magics (Like animal rage) The Pal/clerk will also pack a heavy punch when he uses his magics (Illmaters endurance, champstrenght, impshieldlathander)

How ever the character with the best saving throws will with out a question be the Sorc With the carisma bonus and alot of ability point spent in wis and dex. And with one level monk he will also have envasion making him very "powerful" indead.

so I gess when I mean powerful i dont just mean damage. I mean the ability to take on whatever is thrown at them including mind spells and things like that.

Please fell free to chare your ideas with me.

Animal Rage is a level 4 druid spell. Rather than wait, I had my druid take a single level of barbarian so I had rage from level 2

She was able to complete the Battle Squares in chapter 2 at barb 1/druid 10. My battleguard of Tempus cleric coped with levels 1-7 of the Battle Squares before my druid stepped in. The cleric buff spells were useful enough, but the druid offensive spells and shapechanging were more effective as the levels got higher.

Can a Barbarian 1/Druid x use Barbarian Rage whilst shapechanged? Or must she rage first, then shapechange?

I will have to think about that Skooter

Does anyone have any suggestions on a superthief. I have thought about how to make it more effective in melee or even making it better at sneak attacks.
I know that the some people talk about using two weapons but I cant seem to get them to hit as good as I want them to.
Any suggestions ?

Keep posting on the orignal post if you have more to say about that I love hearing what you guys have to say

...two weapons ...?
A lot of people like giving thier thief a level of ranger for the free Dual-Wielding and Ambidexterity feats. Its a pretty good plan, because thieves work best with light armor anyway. In general, the two weapon style of fighting isn't very effective in IwDII, but it can really shine with a thief. Another option is to give a thief four fighter levels and use those feats for honing his ranged weapn skills.

I would go with the Barbarian. Personally, I would just prefer the monk/sorc.

Can a thief sneakattack several times in Icewind? I was under the inpresion that was the case in NWN but not in Icewind.
How about weapons then? i can think of only one combo so faar

shortsword +weaponfinesse +ranged weapon

But I have no idea if there are any weapons that are extremly good for thiefs.
