The Wandering Wizard

It seems every game I have played ended up like this. "The wizard is weak at lower levels, strong at higher levels" but invariably during the course of that game you would begin to see that melee was the way to go. Whether due to tons of nearly magic immune monsters or the game ending before your spell casters were very strong. In BG and IWD I thought this had finally changed. But along comes the sorcerer. I don't know what prompted the people who made the whole DnD game series to say, "Ok, lets make the wizard totally obsolete by adding a class in that does everything he does only better with less penalties, and hell, lets even make it so he doesn't need to spend money or time trying to FIND the spells he needs." And thats where this topic brings me. How about adding in a wandering wizard merchant who sells varying level scrolls during different parts of the game. This whole scroll thing is obviously a design flaw, either that or they're trying to completely stamp out the wizard class and I don't want that! Could you imagine what your favorite books would have been like if there was a sorcerer in the party? Gandalf says, "The orcs are upon us! We must flee, the sorcerer has already casted 3 fireballs and so have I, we're both out of spells!" Sorcerer responds, "Eh? Don't worry, I still have 5 fireballs left including any other level 3 spells that are worth casting, no need to rest. Oh, and I know we haven't come across any level 4 or 5 spells for you yet Gandalf, but don't worry, I got them automatically so I'll take care of problems from here on out. Just sit back, relax. And Balrogs? 7 Cone of Colds or 7 Ice storms should take care of that no problem"

i didn't see a problem about the wizard.
the sorcerer is just a copy of the wizard, with more penalties (can't learn spells) and more times he can cast spells.
i don't seem to have a problem with the wizards

I believe that one of the things that has made the Wizard less desirable than the sorc in IWD and IWD2 is that the compulsory 2 spells you should be able to pick when ever you get a new spell level.

This isnt in the IWD games, and I think that from that comes the tipping of the scales toward the sorc

If you are playing with a full party, the difference between sorc and wizard isn't really noticeable. Have 3 different classes of wizards if you like, and 3 fighter-types for melee, which will pretty much see you through the game on core. Plus, it's really your game, so if you don't like sorcs, don't use them.
