.

...there is an information screen - AFAIR you find the button is in the middle of the character screen - where most things are explained - but it's a little bit confusing cause the screen is to small!

look under constitution - there you will find a table how-many extra HP you get...

...but you will gain 1 more HP per level for each CON-bonus !

CON 08 -> -1 HP per level
CON 10 -> +0 HP per level
CON 14 -> +2 HP per level
CON 24 -> +7 HP per level
CON 30 -> +10 HP per level

You don't stop gaining hit points from extra CON until you reach the level cap of 30.

Baldur's Gate uses second edition D&D rules while Icewind 2 uses third edition rules.
In second edition you stopped gaining your hit die at somewhere around level 12-15 while still gaining your constitution bonus at levels thereafter. I think certain classes get certain bonuses besides the con bonus after these levels. The Warrior class (Barbarians, Fighters, Paladins) I believe are the ones that get this and I think its a base of 3 hp+level.

In Icewind Dale 2 however you will continue to gain hit die with every level as well as your constitution bonus. If you have the instruction manual with Icewind Dale 2 your answers may be in there if the aren't then find a friend with a third edition players handbook or go out to your local book store and pick one up for twenty bucks. This book will have most if not all your answers for determining the best way to utilize your abitlity scores.

Yup, it is. The tables at the very back of the book have all the info regarding ability score bonuses, levels, spell advancement, etc. If you don't have that you can download a pdf version from various websites.
