does anybody know how are the DC for saves vs. effects produced by items (wight's blade, loth's sting, etc) calculated?

The manual will probably answer these questions, Mirk.

By the way, what exactly does DC stand for? I'm assuming it means base or starting saves before modifiers. They'd be calculated by character level, I would think, according to the 3rd Editional D & D rules upon which IWD2 gameplay is based.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable here might know more about this but otherwise, as I said, check the manual for the specific information you need.

this is a copy-paste from some info site, sorcerers.net, i guess:

When a character attempts to roll a saving throw, a random number from 1-20 is generated. The character's saving throw bonus, and modifiers, are applied to that roll. If their sum is equal to or greater than the DC (difficulty check) of the attack, they successfully save. While some saving throw DCs are arbitrarily derived (a dragon's breath, for instance), most spells are derived using the following formula:

Spell Level + Caster's Ability Bonus + 10 = Spell DC.

E.g., Marfain Vaer casts a fireball. She is a sorcerer with a 16 Charisma. Since fireball is a 3rd level spell, and her ability score modifier is +3, the DC of her spell is 16 (3 + 3 + 10 = 16).

In that case, apart from the manual, I don't know where you'd find the information you need about saves vs. effects produced by items.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
