Problem with Ranger Multiclass

I started out a Strongheart Halfling Rogue, and multiclassed to Ranger after Level 1...but I did not receive the ambidexterity and two-weapon feats. What went wrong, or did I just not understand the rules well enough?

Lightbulb

Did you give him any armor above Light Armor range? Rangers only get 'Ambidexterity' and 'Two-Weapon Fighting' capabilities when they wear light armor or none at all.

I tend to go with Strongheart Halflings as well (with a pic of a halfling rogue w/ a dagger in each hand), though I actually give them 'Ambidexterity' and 'Two-Weapon Fighting' as their starting feats, and build up from there. If you're looking for some Halfling rogue tips, I suppose I could try and provide some good basic tips. *shrugs* Still, that's all up to you.

just a little bit to add to galuf's post. the ranger does not 'gain' the 2-wield feats that are in the feats list (in other words: they are not marked as if you had put feat points into them), simply because their special ability is applied only when certain conditions are met. if you are in light/no armor, if you look at the 'to hit' numbers, they will be as if you had ambi and 2wfighting - but you will not actually 'have' the feats themselves. because, if they were marked, then you could do 2-wield with the minimum penalty even if you were in med/heavy armor.

i think the game designers saw it fit to make the ranger bonus a passive skill, if you will, that is not represented in the feat list - but you can be assured that if you are a ranger and you are in light/no armor, the bonuses will be there - whether or not there is no way to really tell if it is in effect other than looking at your 'to hit' numbers. you didn't do anything wrong - you were just confused by the lack of the representation that you expected.

Thanks, I didn't think to check the numbers...I just assumed that it would be listed under the 'feats' section. Thanks again.

Oh, yes, that's what I meant. I just couldn't find the right words to post.

Still, it's funny that, say, a Morninglord of Lathander AUTOMATICALLY RECIEVES the 'Improved Turning' feat, yet why doesn't the Ranger AUTOMATICALLY recieve 'Ambidexterity' and 'Two-Weapon Fighting' feats at first level. Still, what you have to say makes sense. I would have to say that would be more than just one copper for your thoughts, if you do the math.
