kmonster is definitely right about finding better armor. At this stage of the game the beetle armor can still be quite useful though. One good thing about the armor Oswald makes (even in the later chapters) is that it is extremely light weight and for a cleric that might not have a very high strength it helps them have some weight carrying capacity available.
Oswald can indeed make more than one copy of any item he offers you. BUT, he can only make "one at a time." So he has to completely finish one copy, of whatever he is making, before he will offer to make another.
In my first playthrough I had 3 characters that had Oswald's full plate, the heaviest, (which is my preference of the three styles). Two of them later changed to new armor I found, but my cleric who only had a strength of 12 used his almost until the game's finish. Oswald can also make items from winter wolf pelts as well as the yeti pelts.
