paladin trouble

i'm trying to multiclass a paladin of mystra and a wizard, i'm a level 3 paladin and level 2 wizard, but for some reason it wont let me cast any wizard spells. is there something obvious that i might be overlooking? would low intellegence have something to do with it?

Lightbulb I think it's not the low level in intelligence...

...rather, you are using heavy armor (and perhaps even a shield) that causes the spell casting failure.

If you have feats in Armor Arcana (sp?) then this would decrease the spell casting failure of 5% per slot.

sounds like the low int is your problem, to cast a spell you must have 10 + spell level, int.

it isn't that i'm failing it's that it's greyed out. do you only get the stat increase once? because i've only got 10 int and started with 9. i guess i should have considered that before i started the char.

Lightbulb In that case, I would agree then with Koz-Ivan...

...Intelligence would have something to do with it. However, considering that your're just talking about low-level spells I couldn't figure it out either why you arent able to cast any of these spells...

...unles of course you havent gotten any spells in your spellbook and have the spells of your choice from your spellbook memorized...

But if he's only got an intelligence of 10, he shouldn't be able to cast any wizardly spells. 10 + level = spellcasting level. At an intelligence of 11, he can cast level 1 wizard spells.

do i get to gain another int ever? it would be unfortunate to have wasted those two levels, since the character is pretty inept at anything except dying at the moment. i was hoping with a couple spells he'd atleast be kind of useful.

Every few levels you'll get a chance to raise one stat. But IMO, it would be wiser to retire the character and design a new, better replacement, then do some minor killing to raise their level to something comparable with the rest of your party. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a long time just to allow your paladin to cast the lowest levels of wizardry spells, instead of building his/her strength or attributes.
