Talking More about multi classing,again...

So if I have an aasimar and I start as a rogue and advance him as a ranger as well like this: rogue/ranger 1/0...1/1...2/1...2/2...3/2...and so on, will I suffer any experience loss?

If I have understood right, the experience loss occurs when the classes are more than 1 level apart, but if one of the classes is the race´s favored class then it can be apart from the others many many levels but there will be no experience loss...right?

Also would a short sword be a better choise than a dagger? A dagger is fastest and there are usually lots of magical daggers (Neb´s Nasty Cutter in BG2 can be a devastating weapon cos´ it hits often and makes fast poison damage). There aren´t too many magical short swords in BG2...

In IWD II you start at lvl 1 and not at level 4/5 like in BG II so you wont get that many magical items in the beginning. I'd prefer shortsword (and a longsword in the other hand).

I know that one starts at lvl 1...I´m only thinking about the bigger picture known as future. So when the game goes on there might be some very delicious daggers that reward dagger users. Dual-wielded weapons that are of different length aren´t really for my taste...scimitars look nice but I don´t want to be a Drizzt copy. I also think that magical short swords are quite rare...at least in BG2. Yes now, about the experience loss...

No you will not suffer any experience loss if you keep your classes 1 level apart.

This is correct, favoured class means that your aasimar character can be a level 10 Paladin and level 2 rogue without any xp penalties.

So tiefling is quite a better choice, thief is their favoured class.

Yes I know. I still prefer an aasimar when considering roleplay, that´s why I´ll go for an aasimar. I want a roleplay not a powerplay

Heh, I’m fortunate that my role-playing vision often coincides with the power gaming perspective. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/winkgrin.gif

The two weapon thing is a chellenge.

I always thing of the Dune version of long sword and short sword (or very long dagger.) I also liked the punch dagger idea in Torment. I think the teifling with dual punch daggers would be very cool/cruel.

In BG2 I think I used the flail of ages and a long sword of some kind. (whichever one had the best benefits at the time - protection from mind control, etc.)

They claim to have a broader range of weapons in IWDII. Maybe they will focus on some of the more unique weapons. the problem is that they might not have two really cool short swords. Also few characters are limited to just the short sword, so it's less likely that the most powerful weapons will be of that design. Daggers and staves show up a lot because clerics, druids, mages and sorcerers are all limited in weapon usage.

Can a rogue use a long sword these days?

How about a drow illusionsit/rogue with punch dagger and plus 2 black jack? (just a thought)

Hmm...I like the idea of a rogue/ranger.I must have the hide in shadows ability and I love nature and animals...I like to think myself as someone who can get even to the smallest of places. Sometimes it requires lock picking and there might be some deadly traps around...I hardly like the idea of stickin my face to a book of magic and I sure am not a cleric or a fanatic defender of balance so it´s rogue/ranger for me.

Also I have to take either dual daggers or shortswords (Weapon Finesse) and I don´t think it´s a bad idea. You see as you said there are many magical dagger with different abilities:
one could cause effective poison damage and the other could cause a bleeding wound. That would cause bonus damage each round.Dagger is also fast and when the THAC0 gets better and you have 2 daggers with speed factor of 1 you hit incredebly often.

Think about that...

I have personal issues with poison weapons.
I usually avoid having my good aligned characters use them. There's something nefarious about poison. Though it occurs naturally it is sneaky to us it on one's foes. (My chaotic good characters think it's unfair. My lawful good think it's too chaotic.)

Evil characters should poison everything....

Oh...never taught about that. You are right...well then elemental dagger princess then: one dagger makes cold damage and the other makes fire damage Well anyway dagger hit very often with good THAC0 so I guess the damage type really doesn´t matter...I never completed my ToB and I would have liked to see the Dagger of Stars +5. I just have this thing about night, moon and the star...I guess that Dagger of Stars would have been my personal item. Also I love the longsword Daystar...the name I mean.
