Keyboard not working properly in the game

Hey, I don't know if anyone else has ever had this problem, but it didn't occur at all on my old computer, and it doesn't happen in any other games on this computer.

Basically all that happens is I have to hit a key 5 or 10 times while in the game for anything to happen. During character creation it took forever to spell out my character's names, and now that I'm playing, it's very annoying because I like to pause the game A LOT, and I'm used to always just hitting the spacebar to pause it whenever I need to, but now it takes like 5 seconds of wailing on the spacebar to get it to pause. The same thing happens whenever I want to open my inventory or check the map, or quicksave. I use the keyboard shortcuts a lot in this game, so this is quite a bit of a problem. I've tried the game both with and without the patch and neither seem to be working. If anybody knows how to fix this, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for your help.

Try changing the port your keyboard is plugged into. Eg. If it is plugged into PS2, plug it into USB/USB2. If it is plugged into USB/USB2, plug it into PS2.

That's a little hard to do when you're on a laptop.

LOL, sorry, I didn't realise you were on a laptop. Have you got all the drivers installed properly, and all the patches on for your keyboard?

I would guess that if it doesn't happen with any other programs that its the IWD2 software not the keyboard that is the problem. So you may want to try just uninstalling and re-installing IWD2. Be sure to copy your save game files to somwhere safe like a disk or USB key storage device!

Another thought- does it work when you use an external keyboard plugged into your laptop?

I know for a fact that it isn't a problem with my keyboard, and I've already tried both reinstalling the game, as well as completely uninstalling it and installing it again.

Did you try plugging an external keyboard into the USB port?

same problem here!

Did you ever figure anything out on this?

I have the same problem on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8600).
Tried an external USB keyboard, no change (possibly a bit worse...)
Tried reinstalling, no change.

I have never seen this on any other game (including IWD1 or BG2, etc). Also, strangely enough, this does NOT happen using the escape key! (to go to the options menu). So I don't see it being a hardware problem...

I'd just like to say that I'm experiencing the same issue (keys slow in IWD2) and I haven't been able to figure it out. I have BG2 and they work just fine. Using a laptop, XP SP2.

Question Ditto

I have the same problem. I have a Dell Latitude D610 running Win XP. I'm disappointed to here that a separate keyboard didn't solve the problem since that's what I was going to try next. Reinstalling did not work. Game is patched. My friend ran from the same install on his Dell laptop without problems. It's incredibly frustrating to play without being able to pause. Has anyone figured out a solution? By the way, not only does Esc work, Alt does as well (so you can "see" searchable areas). However, most, if not all of the letters, numbers, backspace, and the space bar do not work except with repeated keystrokes.
