Question Dualclassing

Hi,

Iīm playing RPGīs since ages but since i never used any multiclass characters, therefore i would need some advice concerning this issue.

When do i get this EXP Penalty?

1)When i Lvl up different classes with just 1 Lvl difference there is no penalty rite? (Example Fighter1/Barbarian 2, F2/B2, F3/B2 and so on)

2)When i multiclass Human there should be also no penalty rite?

But now the tricky point where i got messed up....

3)When one class is the characters favoured class there is also no penalty.

Example. When i create a character whose favoured class is rogue ...is it then possible to make one levl as rogue and then x lvl of any other class, or is it essential that the new class is the characters favoured class?

Letīs say favoured class is rogue and i create ..

-Rogue 1/Wizard 20 .....Penalty or not?
-Wizard 1/Rogue 20 .....Penalty or not?

Letīs say favoured class is wizard and i create..

-Rogue 1/Wizard 20 ..... Penalty or not?
-Wizard 1/Rogue 20 ..... Penalty or not?

Another question.... does a multiclass character take advantage of all classes he passes through or does he loose them as a result of any reason (kind of armour, weapon etc ...)

Thanks vm for advice in advance

Welcome to the forum

First off, Humans get no penalty for having two classes. Other races ignore their favoured class whatever level it is at.

Otherwise you get a 20% penalty to XP gained by a character for every class outside the 1 level gap.

For example a race with rogue as it's favoured class (say Halfling) is multiclassed to Wizard. There is no penalty (even if there is a big gap) because the rogue level is ignored completely. However, if you then added any other class (and it was outside 1 level of the Wizard) then you would get the 20% penalty. Adding another class on top of this would increase the penalty to 40% and so on.

None of those characters would have the XP penalty as the favoured class is ignored regardless of level.

A multiclass character gets all of the advantages of all the classes he has but may be limited by certain things. E.g. A rogue/fighter can wear heavy armour proficiently but cannot use thieving abilities while wearing heavy armour and in your example of a rogue/wizard, the character would be able to wear leather armour but would fail spell casting difficulties due to the restrictions in-game.

Hope that clears it up a bit. Feel free to ask any questions about it.

It really depends on the multi-classes

Barbarian MC - I believe they lose thier speed bonus if they are wearing heavy armour.

Bard MC - suffer a % failure to cast spells if wearing armour, the heavier the armour the higher the chance of failure. However the chance of failure can be decreased by selecting the armored arcana feat. (same for sorcerers/wizards)

I've never tested this but apparently the bard/druid MC can sing while shapeshifted.

Monk MC - loses alomost all of their special abilities if wearing armour or shield.

The unarmored WIS bonus they gain to their AC is transferable to druids in shapeshifted form.

Also bear in mind the strict multi-classing limits for Monks (and Paladins)

Rogue MC - as Ravager said suffer from penalties to thieving skills when wearing heavier armours

Oh and all spell casting classes are only able to cast spells from any given level if their casting ability (either WIS, INT or CHA) is 10 + 1 per level so to be able to cast sixth level spells a druid/cleric/paladin/ranger would need a WIS of 16, a wizard INT 16, and bard/sorcerer CHA 16

Hope this helps.

Ah that are great news so i can convert my Aasimar Clerik into a Paladin after he is fitted with all spellevels, without getting 20pct penalty in order to be able to use the Holy Avenger. He is lawfull good and has the important stats to convert and favoured class is Paladin.

I just wonder why i never went for muliclass the past 20 years there are really some nice combos ....my favourites will be Rogue/Wizard, Fighter/Barb, and Clerik/Pal for the future.

Many thanks for quick answers.
