broken prism in ch2

the prism that shoots off the bolts of lightening is broken but i am at a loss as to how to fix it. anyone with some insight? cheers

You need to to adjust at least one mirror near the entry.
Minor spoiler (highlight): You can theoretically use also the prism as a weapon to shoot lightnings, eg along the floors.

thanks for the replies...but..the prism is definitely broken. it says;

'the prism has been disabled in a flurry of electrical energy, and that because i feel that the prism is such an important device i am compelled to find a way to fix it.'

has anyone come across this before?

Yes. You've evidently used one of the settings that sent a bolt straight back at the thing.

Down in a large room to the south, you'll find switches on the wall that allow you to play battlesquares. One of the switch settings, however, will initiate repairs to the site. Just throw the first two switches until you read that comment. When you do, you can return to the machine room. It will useable, again.
