There isn't really a best pure class. Every class is unique by itself. You take your favorite class and make it the better one...

I would think that the best pure class party would include a good amount of spellcaster class characters - as they grow in power exponentially with higher level spells.

For a four member party I might include:

1. Sorcerer - spell casting power and party spokesperson
2. Cleric - buffs and front line fighting
3. Fighter - tank
4. Rogue - ranged weapons and scouting

Rogue could be changed to a Bard if you like that class. I ran this party myself and it was quite fun. The cleric and fighter acted as tanks and the rogue was the sorcerer's bodyguard.

I am sure that some of the more analytical members could give you stats and detailed comparissons - this is just a party that worked well for me.

im doing something similar to that smass exept i use a six member party

fighter = front line tank
monk = front line tank
cleric = second line tank and healer
druid = second line tank
rogue = ranged
sorceress = ranged and kicken spells

it seems to be working so far

Sounds good - it is a bit tempting to multiclass a bit - adding some fighter levels to a rogue or a cleric can really add some punch.

But seeing how you can solo the game with just about any character - you should have no trouble with pure class characters in a group.

Don't let Kayless know I said this - I think he gets royalties from his sticky thread at the top of this forum

i hate multi classing i find that every time i do i get scewed on something be it spells, hp, ect. so i have no trouble avoiding it.

multi classing was easier in second edition rules in some ways

plus i quite like pure classing it make life alot easier
