Question Two fairly newbie-esque questions.

Haven't played IWD in a while, and I'm having some trouble breaking my BG2 habits. Two questions in particular come to mind.

#1. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be a "Thief Adventurer" type script. (The constant detect traps one.) Any convenient way I can rectify this situation? It's a pain to constantly have to turn that back on.

#2. Dual-wield on rangers. In IWD this is just an extra attack with the one weapon you can hold and NOT the ability to hold two weapons at once a la BG2, right? Grumble. I had two weapons already picked out and everything.

That about covers it.

IWD came before BG2, and as a result some of the smae rules weren't implemented. I think that the ranger dual wielding situation is like that..not available. I don't know about in HoW, since I'm STILL waiting for my copy. http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/frown.gif

Figures...thanks for the info, though. One last question, this one being of a more technical nature. Occasionally IWD will massively slow down and become very choppy. The problem won't correct itself; it'll either continue until I exit the game or it'll actually lock up the game (and my computer) forcing me to manually reboot. I'm not sure what could be causing it, since my computer more than exceeds all system requirements and runs BG2 without flaws. I tried turning off environmental audio and character movement sounds just in case, but no change. Also, if it's relevant, when I'm loading the game the Black Isle and the TSR videos at game launch run very distorted, with the upper half flickering constantly. After I pass those two, though, the game looks normal. Any ideas?

Hmmm...Is there any specific events like battles or spells right before the slowdown? Or are you changing areas, entering buildings?

I've noticed no particular correlation between the slowdowns/lockups and any specific kind of in-game action. Sometimes it happens during battles (the last lackup occurred while fighting the ogre in the caravan cave at the very beginning), and sometimes they occur and I can't figure out why. Earlier it began to get choppy while I was walking around Easthaven, not doing anything at all. Talking to someone, getting into a large fight, or entering/leaving a building/area seem to cause it most often, but sometimes it'll happen for no apparent reason.

I'm not sure what causes this but i'm guessing it has something to do with cache or temp files. Anything that takes a lot of storage or graphics intensity seems to cause problems on some comps even if they're well above the minimum specs.i think some people were having similar problems with BG2 and solved it by changing the cache size. I can't remember offhand if there is an option in IWD for doing that. You can try to search the BG2 forum for bug topics.Sometimes saving more often seems to help too.I'll see if I can look up the thread I'm thinking of, but the forum has been terribly slow today.

There were a few suggestions in there that I'll try tonight, namely increasing cache size and defragging. Thanks a ton for doing all this research, I really appreciate the effort regardless of whether or not I can get the game working. (grin)

If I remember correctly, the only "dual-wield" option is a graphics-less fake-out. A ranger gets an extra attack when wielding a one-handed sword and not carrying a shield, as if he were actually carrying two versions of the same sword.
